I started "collecting" jewelry over 25 years ago, so I've acquired a massive amount.  It's my passion.  My taste and preferences have evolved over those years, though, so I still do find gemstones pieces that are fresh and different from what I already have.

In the beginning, nearly everything I bought was gemstones set in gold.  I still have most of those pieces, and often ponder about what they'd be worth today.  When I die, my little sis will have a windfall!  When I first started buying, the only worthwhile gems and jewelry were in gold.  Silver was used for lower quality gems and simpler settings.  Once gold increased in price, designers finally started creating beautiful gemstone pieces in silver, so I now have a great collection of those, and they didn't cost me an arm and leg.  (I buy mostly from ShopLC now.)

I still love watching gemstone jewelry shows, and do occasionally make a purchase because it's still fun getting something new.  During days like this (not just QVC), before I sit down to watch, I drag out a few jewelry boxes so I can see what I already have.  It helps keep me from buying something I really shouldn't!

I'm doing that right now!  Except I'm going through all of my gold and gemstone jewelry, regardless of which shopping channel I bought it from.  I've been collecting jewelry for 30 years but I don't buy much, if any, from QVC anymore.  I can do better with the other shopping channels in terms of style and cost.  This year, I'm going to focus on gold jewelry.  I love my silver but I'm going to put thought into what I buy and expand my gold options.  For me, that means adding pendants and earrings to the rings I already own.  I'll look but QVC's jewelry prices are high for the jewelry they are offering and the carat weights are low.

In honor of Gem Day, I am going to go through my jewelry boxes and admire all of the lovely jewelry that I purchased from QVC from 1991 to around 2008. Once that's done, I can safely go back online to check out the items that have been shown on air and know that I got such a good deal on some beautiful, quality pieces back then that I do not need to overspend on the pieces that are being offered today. After watching other jewelry shows in the last couple weeks, Q's prices seem to be a little higher than most and Q does not give a lot of information about the gem stones.  The sapphire watches are nice though.

Great idea and money saver!  When you have the time, take the time to look at all the jewelry you own, you always find special pieces you had forgotten and love to wear.

Most of what is being offered today is beautiful but doesn't suit my lifestyle or budget.  I have purchased many beautiful pieces from QVC over the years I have been shopping with them.  I love it all I just don't need anymore jewelry.

I love the bold silver pieces from Taxco. I wish they had shows feauturing that. I don't think they have any Mexican silver or designer pieces anymore.

@lakesfan

I also started buying beautiful 14KT and 18KT jewelry from QVC - from around 1998 to 2008. Large RoloLink Bracelet and Smaller RoloLink Bracelet - both 18KT gold. I have an emerald-shape Brazilian Amethyst pendant on a gold chain, a large pear-shape Brazilian Amethyst ring in 14KT gold -- and many other items. I've been retired for a long time, so I don't wear much jewelry - but I love seeing everything I've purchased -- for such low prices.
