It does not affect gold jewelry. That is always high. All jewelry with precious elements (diamonds, gold, precious gem stones) are always high when you buy new. The value goes down after purchasing. That's why companies like Gem Shopping go after estate sales. Same thing in estate sales in jewelry stores. Previously owned gold is lower in price. Unless the jewelry is rare and exceptional quality/beauty, you sell for a lower price.

Missed going through my armoir and actually taking my never-worn pieces to sell. I've been watching and waiting for that 2,000 mark again. And to my surprise I have a huge tupperware container full of 14K and 18K pieces which had been completely forgotten about! Amazing what one acquires over a lifetime of jewelry.
My tastes certainly changed over the years from the classic to the femine to the big bold and back to the very classic simple pieces I began with in the first place!
Why did I have to own all of those precious colored gemstones to match each suit? Once I stopped working, they no longer saw daylight! My husband loved buying those rings, pendants, and matching earrings. What a wonderful man. But was it that important? I'd much rather have HIM alive and healthy.

Gold buyers don't want gemstones just ol' plain gold.
The one I use down in Boca Raton, Fl. don't want silver either.

I've never bought any jewelry with thoughts of reselling it....never crossed my mind. I buy it to keep or to give as gifts.

@SilleeMee Always thought my three neices (or later, my DIL) would love to have their choice of whatever was available. None of my neices wear jewelry!
And my son has enjoyed giving his wife (my DIL) jewelry just like his dad enjoyed giving me jewelry. She has gorgeous pieces! The only piece she is interested in is a large, bold solid 18K Neferitti pendant and chain which I still wear and have left to her in my Will. I had it custom-made years ago with small post earrings to match.
ETA: Hope my grandson will use at least one of the great diamonds when he's older and ready to marry. There are several inherited rings and, of course, my wedding rings which I still wear that will never be sold. They are in my Will and will go to my son. He has always admired the beauty of those precious stones and the meaning of them to our family.

You are so blessed to have family and to have jewelry to pass on to them. I am not so fortunate. I am a lone survivor and I don't have any kids. So whatever I have will go to charity and to some dear young friends. Hopefully they will find joy in wearing it as I have for all these years. ![]()
