These earrings are close to the color of my hair (hair being a little darker than the darkest part of the earring) so they don't show up very well.  Would that bother you?

yes it would bother me. Definitely not the same color.

They look like they are made of abalone or mother-of-pearl.  The real way to see how they appear is  in different types of light.  The mother-of-pearl may catch the light or reflect it, and then they will have that lighter color shade.  It may also be possible to see all the different colors in the shell when they are dangling and moving on your ears.

Yes it would bother me.  I'm a brunette with hair that covers my ears.  For those reasons I don't wear earrings which blends into my hair color or small studs that are hidden behind my hair.  I like to have some contrast with the earring and my hair.

Besides those earrings do not look like what you thought you were getting.  I would return them.

I don't think the ones you received are nearly as pretty as how they were pictured.  I would be disappointed and would probably return them.

If you want to keep them try a jewelry cleaning cloth. I think they are tarnished. DO NOT dip them in jewelry cleaner!

Lighting and angles make a difference. I like the darker color though I couldn't wear them. Keep them if you like them. Return if you don't.
