@blackhole99We don't hold a candle to the jewelry (diamonds, 24K gold, and precious colored stones) women in foreign countries own. Attend a stockholders meeting of a world-wide company and you'll see amazing jewels . . . the real deal in 24K gold or platinum. Their clothing is equally expensive.

Makes my head spin how many pieces some women pile on at a time! In all honesty, it's obscene . . . but I am intrigued and amazed. Smiley Wink

@BirkiLady  I guess I should have said," the average American woman", that's what the article mentioned. Of course, very rich women around the world can afford anything their hearts desire.

I like precious stones.  I think I just like flashy things.  I do like it when precious stones (i.e. rubies, saphires, etc) are mixed in with a 'few' diamonds.

Ever since I saw the movie "Blood Diamonds" (I think that was it) I've never cared much for them.

I've read up on diamonds and know that there are millions of them and they're kept in a vault to drive up the price of them.

All other gemstones respond to normal market pressures, that is the prices go up and down with demand and supply. This is not true for diamonds. Diamond prices are held artificially high by a very near complete monopoly by a single company. They hold huge amounts of diamonds in storage in order to crate a shortage and so keep the price up. For some not clear reason this price manipulation is allowed in diamonds but prohibited in other gems and precious metals.

I agree with you.  I Have a couple of Victoria Wiecks Brillante her man made simulated diamonds are amazing.  I had my nails done yesterday and the lady doing my nails could not believe how pretty my ring is.  The reason I like diamonds is because of the sparkle.  If I can get a stone that sparkles like crazy why spend money on diamonds that are so over priced.

Not me!  I think diamonds are awesome!  I hardly have any and I wish I had more!!!  I just think they are gorgeous.  They are timeless, classy and go with anything.  Faux ones are o.k, but there is nothing like the real thing.

I must admit...diamonds are MY favorite....if you have a good quality one especially.....the beautiful colors radiate in different lighting......I will take them over other gems....but also love sapphires and black spinel...............

@kelsey17  ITA. I love diamonds more than colored gemstones...faceted ones, that is. I prefer cabachon stones, especially turquoise and onyx. I use any and all stones when designing jewelry.

Except for my oval engagement ring w/ eternity band, my diamond jewelry was inherited. My daughter & DIL already have several pieces and many have been put away for the granddaughters.

Of course, to some, good diamonds are a symbol of wealth. I see the ones I have just as beautifully designed pieces of jewelry to be worn and enjoyed every day (insured) and not put away for a special occasion.

@Annabellethecat66, I agree. When I was younger I loved diamonds. I have a few nice ones though the largest single diamond I own is just under a carat.  But I now prefer colored gemstones.

Right now I’m doing my best to resist buying a padparadscha sapphire. Found one that isn’t very large but has a lovely pink orange color.  Keep telling myself to step away! 😆

We all like or dislike things. I've always loved diamonds. Good quality diamons do have a lot of sparkle and color to them..

My husband I have bought many of my pieces second hand. Meaning from our jewelers estate cases or ebay. We don't like the idea of people getting paid so little to mine the stones. Not all diamonds come from Africa, some come from the states.

I love gem stones too. Very good rubies, emerald's and sapphires can cost more than the same sized diamonds.

It's true that the cost of diamonds are inflated and that Debeers is the company that does this. They only allow a certain amount of diamonds to be bought 3 to 4 times a year. But, they're real and to a lot of people this makes a difference. Some women won't wear CZ's because you can pretty much so tell they're not real, if you know about jewelry.

I'm glad mother nature has made so many different gemstones for us to choose from.

I'm not a diamond girl either--I prefer color. I sold the only diamond I had in my wedding set, years ago. I have a few pieces with tiny accent diamonds in it but that is all. would never buy diamonds!!!

I'm not a diamond fan, either.  I've only ever bought one piece, and to this day I couldn't tell you why I thought I needed to do that.  The diamonds I do have were gifted to me and so they mean a lot, but not because they are diamonds.  They certainly are lovely, and I can see why they are so popular, but I'm a colored gemstone gal.
