What I find shocking is that anyone thinks diamonds are worth setting in precious metals.  Diamonds are the most common gemstone there is next to quartz, their value is entirely the product of a very controlled delivery pipeline, the DeBeers monopoly.  Now of course the extremely large, very clear and colorless stones are worth more, but most of the diamonds seen in mass-produced jewelry don't fall into that category.  I know that good diamonds are beautiful, but most of their value is due to very clever marketing.

If we love the look of diamonds and want to buy them set in silver, to keep the jewelry in our budget, why shouldn't we?  My skin tone always looks best with white metals, so why should I pay far more to buy white gold when I can have much more variety of styles by purchasing silver?

Several years ago, I bought a 'AHAVA' diamond and sterling pendant and chain from Or Paz.  It still is as sturdy and and attractive as when bought.

i passed it on to my daughter.  Ahava in Hebrew means love.
