Traditonally (don't kow why either) poorer quality diamonds are on silver. The better the metal, the better the diamonds. Diamonds on 18K are really good ones. Platinum are even better. I don't know about Affinity, but you should not be seeing graded diamonds. If it doesn't bother you, no problem. Any kind of white metal makes diamonds look better.

Not all diamonds are prong set in sterling.

I agree what is so shocking. Same look as platinum or white gold or people will think its platinum or white gold. Not understanding why this is upsetting for some. If you like yellow gold get yellow gold.

Any lower grade WHITE (not yellow) metal will make inferior diamonds look more dramatic. So silver with diamonds are OK. Different story with 10K yellow. The gold is dim making the diamonds bland and unattractive. 14K yellow will be better. But at the same time, the diamonds get better on 14K. 18K even better. Those are times you can wear yellow gold with diamonds. The soulmate for diamonds though is platinum. Currently cheaper then 18K, (still find that hard to believe) platinum makes any diamond remarkable.

It became more commonplace about eight or nine years ago. Since I liked to wear jewelry on an everyday basis, I wore that saved my gold for "good."
What bugs me is setting Diamonique in gold. That is plain no. People buy it.

Oh please... not every piece of jewelry needs to be an 'investment piece'. Some of the silver Affnity rings, especially those from several years ago, are widely affordable, pretty and worthwhile in their own right.

I'm just back from my first Caribbean cruise in about 10 years. Visited Mexico (Costa Maya and Cozumel) and the Grand Cayman Islands. Was very suprised to see that many jewelry stores were selling smaller (but decent quality) diamonds and larger tanzanite stones set in sterling, rather than in 14 or 18k white gold. I was not aware that stones set in sterling prongs are more at risk due to the weaker settings than stones set in gold. Appreciate the information!

I have seen several antique pieces of diamond in silver. I believe it was not unusual. Just as many beautiful antique pieces are 9k gold. As with all antique pieces, whose beauty I feel is superior, one must be careful in wearing.

@janmcd You're welcome. Hope you loved your trip. Vendors in areas where there are lots of tourists tend to try to make more money on their jewelry sales by not setting them in gold. Like I always say "Buyer Beware".
I have however purchased some beautiful pieces in silver just to acquire an exquisite stone at a great price. I then reset it in gold. Something to think about when shopping...the stone may be worth the price to have reset!!!

@songbird I assume the more precious the diamond (meaning quality), the more it deserves a safe, gold or platinum setting.
