Calling All Pearl Experts!

I would like to purchase a ring and a pendant with pearls. At the risk of asking a stupid question ---- I don't like to remove my jewelry when I shower or wash my hands, etc. Is this a problem with pearl jewelry? Most experts say not to get pearls wet.
