Automated order - Website discrepancy on sell outs

I dilly-dallyed on the Dominique Dinouart crinkled silver cuff with the gemstone cabochon last nite. Went to the computer, ordered one in onyx and it says We're sorry, Sold out. So I tried phone auto order and got on waitlist. What's going on here? I am least like the hope of waitlist even if I never get the piece. During ordering process, only one color showed originally as on waitlist. Then bam! sell out message.
