Thanks! I know nothing about diamonds. I cancelled. We are gonna look at a real jeweler. Any advice for that?

Always check the color and clarity.  GH and SI look the best in affordable diamonds.  Watch out for jewelers that have a lot of bright lights shining on the jewelry.  Move away from the lights.  I can tell you from experience those lights can hide some real duds.  Good luck!

Soooo… my dh’s doctor referred us to a “real jeweler”, I am having a heart shaped Diamond custom set. Linger the details for you guys soon. She showed me the stats on it. It’s high quality. I wish I knew how to post pics here

Ask your jeweler for an appraisal - from a certified appraiser. If you want to carry an insurance rider for jewelry you will need it. We are just taking all our jewelry in for updated appraisals, they change and we don't want them under insured.

Only purchased one.  a one caret ring.  I knew I wouldn't be happy when I saw the box in came in with a special light inside.  Inside sitting the box, under that light.....it looked spectacular.  Coming out of the box....downhill in a very quick way.  They are H color diamonds.  The average Joe diamond is at least a G.  Anyway, Affinity shows the H through and through. Just nothing special about them.  Doesn't matter about the inclusions of the diamond.  Just the color ruins it. Oh I still have it. It looks OK wearing it alone. Nothing special.  It looks shabby next to diamonique.  So don't wear it together!  It's a working class diamond.  If you want better, look elsewhere.

@songbird OMGosh, are you saying that there was a light inside the jewelry box?  Like a music box kind of, you open it up and a light comes on?  I've never heard of anything like that!

I can't stand when Affinity (or any other retailer) doesn't include the color or the clarity.  That's a no no for me.

Affinity did offer a VS diamond tennis bracelet in 18K white gold several years ago.  I have it.  There hasn't been anything since like it.

I think the color is more important then the clarity.  The color you see right away and don't need a microscope. Yes they had a light on one of their presentations.  Made the ring looks a thousand times better.  Then you take it out and....looks pretty drab.  I have diamonds that are heck of lot better looking.   14K makes diamonds look diminished anyway.  Nothing like 18K and diamonds....

@songbird I disagree. An I or J diamond is indistinguishable to the naked eye to a more colorless stone UNLESS they are sitting side by side OR set in white metal. If your setting is yellow or rose gold the stone takes on the glow of the metal and money is wasted on insisting on an H or better. Of course you want any smaller stones, if any, to match your solitaire. I would never compromise on clarity, there is nothing worse than a cloudy or inclusion-riddled diamond. A VVSI or VSI sparkles in all light given that the cut of the stone is excellent as well.
