Re: $20 to replace a watch battery????

The Citizen brand that recharges with light (thru the face of the watch) says "EcoDrive" on the dial.  They look like this (this model is called Arrezo):

Amazon sell watch battery, although with some watches I would not change it myself.

We are going to a jewelry store next week to replace ours. It will be interesting to see what they charge. Can you still get wind-up watches? I'd be tempted.

Re: $20 to replace a watch battery????

I was visiting relatives in Santa Maria CA when I needed to replace watch battery. An independent jeweller gave me a battery and changed it for free ( great word of mouth advertising).

My "good" watch is water resistant down to 300 feet. A battery change costs about $100, and the repair shop has to keep it for 5 days to test the water tight mechanism. It's the only shop in the area that's authorized to work on that brand and I'm not willing to possibly void the warranty by going elsewhere, so that's what I pay. Fortunately, a battery usually lasts me about 3-4 years.

@TheWanderingOne   Are you a professional diver?  Would love to read about it.  300 feet seems like well beyond any recreational diving.

I'm afraid I mis-spoke.  It's water and pressure resistant to a depth of 300 meters, which is closer to 985 feet. I wouldn't intentionally dive to any depth with it. There are a number of other features which drew me to the watch. Water and pressure resistance is simply one of those.

Wow! That's alot of money to replace a battery.

My husband changes all our watch batteries, he has

the kit and orders the batteries online...

I too have changed a battery, not too difficult.   Just

have to get the back open and off see which battery it is and replace with the same...  Save a lot of money.

@TheWanderingOne   300 meters is actually much more than 300 feet.  One meter is over 3 feet, so 300 meters is well over 900 feet, which I guess it just means it is a sports watch.  I hope you enjoy it!

I stopped wearing watches many years ago, my boss didn't wear one and was constantly asking me for the time, which was odd and annoying.  We worked together for years and he never bought one, but he stopped asking me for the time.  When I need to know the time, I just look at my cell phone, which I do like to keep with me.  I used to wear a gold watch, which I sold a long time ago, before I had to change the battery.

For me, one less thing to worry about.  Not interested in a "smart watch" and all the tracking features.

Re: $20 to replace a watch battery????

That's what I've been paying for years.  It hasn't gone up but I have some older fashion watches that I don't put batteries in anymore.  Can't bring myself to toss them.   I extend the battery life in watches I love and wear by pulling out the pin when I store them in my watch box.

@Kachina624

My alternative was a "Batteries Plus"...but it's located on the corner of a busy intersection.

Since Phoenix is now Number One in the country for FATAL CAR COLLISIONS....I picked the mall store instead.   What a choice (!!!!)

@dancing 522queen.  The trouble is, if your watch is water proof or resistant and you don't know what you're doing, you'll destroy the integrity of the seal.

All of my several dozen watches are water resistant.
