Has any one taken old wood window panes, and made into being able to put family pictures in to? How did you do them?

You must mean small windows rather than full-size. I think it would be quite a project to convert one to a picture frame. I suppose you'd have to replace the glass.

I bought an actual picture frame, made to look like an old window with four panes in it, for my son's graduation pictures last summer, at Walmart.
They way it is designed is that you are actually sandwiching the pictures inbetween two panes of glass, and you can see right through to the wall, where you don't have any pictures covering the whole glass.
I would guess you could take a single pane window with four or more 'grids' in it, lay it flat, place the pictures in the places you wish, then use either another plain sheet of glass for the backing, or a piece of thin cardboard, covered with any kind of fabric or paper that suited your pictures or style. And might make more sense to secure the pictures to the backing, then place the window over top.

I saw this on the "Rehab Addict" program. I think a handyman/carpenter could do this is you know of someone. My first thought was a cabinet maker. We have one in our area that is an independent guy and actually makes everything. Restoration places would be another place to source.
I have two old picture frames (one small and one super large) that I want to have mirrors placed inside so I'm taking those to a replacement glass business. They might be able to do what you want. Good Luck with your project.

I have an actual old window, the lower half, and I have one of those Starving Artists pictures mounted behind it.

I actually bought this item already made, but one could certainly do themselves. It is a six pane old window (love the weathered look of it) and someone had placed mirror panes in place of the glass. I had a windowless office for many years and purchased this to go on one of my walls and everyone, but everyone that came in thought it was so cool. It brighted up my space due to the mirrors.
