The only Space Bags I've found useful are the dual use bags that you can roll the air out of, which are great for travel. I put my clothes in them and can get 4X the normal amount in a suitcase. They hold the air long enough to travel.

Just a slight warning and something they never say on the presentations: I've used them the same way you have but one time the airline weighed my bag and it was overweight so they let me shift items from one bag to another. Otherwise I would have had to pay an overweight bag fee.

I've put comforters in the ones you seal and roll the air out of. I haven't noticed any problems.
