sewing projects

[ Edited ]

I was just rooting through my sewing drawer and looking at the projects in there. Too many!  I have some pretty fabric I got cheap from the scrap pile at the fabric store and a pattern to make a blouse, a quilted table runner, a pot holder to hold bowls in the microwave, and a cross stitich mermaid picture I am doing that will then be a pillow - I have all the fabric to finish that one already. I need to stay out of the fabric store and spend more time in my sewing room. I'll be doing some of these at sewing club, which is nice because there is always help there from ladies who are much more experienced quilters than I am. This is a whole new thing for me.

So what are you all sewing right now?

I also got a new Brother sewing machine gifted to me and I am in the process of learning to use it as well.

Enjoy your new machines you lucky ladies !

I just finished a sewing project, a Father Christmas wall hanging with woodland critters around him. It's cute, I just hung it next to my buffet hutch and it picks up the colors of my dishes displayed in the hutch. Now I'm looking for another Christmas project (: Happy sewing !

I have just returned to sewing after too many years away.  My mom was an expert designer and seamstress.  I have a 22 year old Bernina gifted to me by Mom.  She had such high hopes for me.  Sorry MOM!! Smiley Sad I currently am working on 2 easy skirts to wear to school.  I also have a jacket cut out.  I just need to find the time to sew everything. I'm also sewing dresses for little girls in Haiti.  The patterns and fabrics are so happy and I know the children will love them.  They sure do need them. I love to sew and love to find beautiful fabrics.  Happy sewing, everyone.        docsgirl

I am having a bit of a hard time understanding how to get my new Brother machine to do all the fancy stitches it is supposed to do.I have been practicing with it today and finally got it to zig zag and do the shell stitch, but it took a long time to get that far.I need to learn how to use the buttonholer.

@151949 I love hearing all of you 'talk' about your sewing projects.  I have an amazing sewing room that (when I walk past says, "Come see me")  I just don't have it in me much anymore.

Here's something I always did for Christmas for friends and neighbors.  I would get some inexpensive baskets.  You can cut squares (or even quicker) you can buy the squares (around 99 cents) that is used for making quilts.  This time of year you could make one side Christmas themed and the other side basic.  Put them face to face and sew them together.  Turn them inside out and press them.  Put them in the basket and put in cookies, etc.  It takes maybe 20 minutes and people are really impressed.  Funny, really!

I have a cardboard box the size supermarkets get their toilet paper in,  in a closet filled with beautiful fabric.   I'll never use it but would love to find someone who would.

My elderly cousin was a fabulous tailor - and lived right here in our Florida town - so I would call her discuss any problems in my sewing , more just to have something to talk to her about than anything else. When we bought our new house we ordered plantation shutters for all the windows and, very crest fallen , she said she was sorry we bought shutters because she was looking forward to making the curtains.I felt soooooo bad.

Quilting is my hobby, and I bought a new computerized Baby Lock machine recently.  I've been on a blitz making baby blankets, burp cloths, diaper clutches.  Lots of towel toppers and a couple table toppers.  My DD found a really cute Christmas throw that she wants me to make.  I dropped off a big quilt to have the long arm quilting done.  I have another about half done.  It's a toile that I fussy cut.

I cut the minky and terry on a table that I set up outside my back door so that the lint doesn't get all over the house.  Today I had to hussle because our first snow storm of the season is upon us tonight.  Had to get it all put away.

I need to find some new projects to make, but not clothing.
