Gotta say, my $299 Hotpoint top loader with agitator works like a champ. I had a Whirlpool Cabrio that I spent much more on and the thing came unbalanced alot, and to re-set the cycle took 20 mins, often after consulting the user guide to figure out the error code. My Hotpoint has never gone off the rails, and I do king sized quilts and bedspreads in it. I can stop it and open it anytime.
@Sweetbay magnolia - I have a 13 year old Maytag and it has never had to be fixed - still running great - was probably around $400 and I LOVE it - no fancy electronics to have to fix - just the basics for me! I have an Amana dryer and it has a huge capacity and several settings - cost me $399 and I love it too.

If it's a front loader think carefully. I have one and I hate it. It smells ,and we have to drain it, and run bleach through it. I can't wash all of my bedding at the same time, because of the low level of water
I wish you luck

If I had A bulky cycle that fills all the way I would use it every week instead of having to do 12 loads. I don't have that.

Hi, @151949. I generally wash the king sized item all by itself, and it's on either "large" or "super", depending on the weight of the item.
It's my understanding that it is the action of the fabric rubbing (agitation) and not the amount of water, that cleans. Even if the item hasn't submerged all the way at the beginning of the cycle, once water absorption in the fabric takes place fully, there's generally lots of water sloshing around and enough friction to "beat out" any soil. The rinse cycle furthers the process.
I have a big dog that gets on the bed (I know, something you would not allow!) and the spread gets washed weekly, and comes very clean.

@hoosieroriginal, may I sing praises of my $269 Hotpoint dishwasher, as well?

I only wash my king size comforter about twice a year so I think I'll continue to take it to the laundramat where I can see it gets washed as it should in those big triple washers.

Wow you are defeating the purpose of using an energy efficient washer. Technology has proven that a whole lot of water is not needed to produce clean clothes! The less water the better. My new Samsungs are extraordinary! My clothes are cleanest they've ever been!

@ID2 If the clothes come out of the washer and are not even wet - how did they get clean? You can only put in as much as will get wet. I assume here you must have a front loader so yes, your clothes all get wet - but with a top loader if you put in a full load of clothes only about half of them will get wet, as the basket only fills about 1/3 with water.

we have have the top load he washer.we have no problem with it. the manual that comes with it explains why parts of clothes comes out dry. its because of that super high speed spin.i have a see thru lid and i have sat and watched a full cycle.clothes do circulate into the water.clothes come up in the center near washplate and work there way tward the tub where they go under into the water and then come back up from center again. like someone else mentioned. the action of clothes rubbing togeather gets them clean.
