@qualitygal When we had our roof replaced, both times I was working. Came home from work and there was a new roof.
Next roof, I won't be so lucky, since I am retired. Thanks for the information. Will plan something anything to be away from home. Don't want to hear what goes on replacing a roof. It will probably scare me.
The roof guys put tarps around our bushes and plants. So the plants looked just fine. Hope your's do well too.

@catter70 I am curious - Does your home owners insurance company mention the age of your roof? Our roof is 10 years old, it is mentioned every time we have a conversation with our agent.

It's pretty nerve wracking with all that banging but you'll have a nice new roof when they are finished. Good luck with it!

Figured we'd have cracks in the plaster once they finished.

@qualitygal Our next door neighbors had their roof replaced today. Five guys working all day from 8 to 5:30. That included setup and cleanup. I envy their energy! It made me tired just watching them climbing up and down the ladders and all over the roof. DH reminded me they probably still have to go get rid of all the debris, clean up, eat dinner, maybe participate with family activities, sleep and start all over again tomorrow. WOW! I was energetic when I was young, but WOW!

We had a rather large addition put on to the back of our house last spring/summer. We wanted an entire new roof over all so it matched.
The noise was quite loud, even when they were tearing off the old shingles over the main house.
But the noise of a roof getting hammered on (nail guns, but still) over the empty, unfinished room was unbelievable. Without the sound barrier of drywall/ceilings.
I stayed the whole day because of the cats. I needed to be there to calm them. There were about a half dozen men on the roof and a half dozen men on the ground. Done in one day!
@qualitygal Don't forget to notify your home insurance company. Nice reduction in premium....

You dont have to stay at the home. Mine was done while at work.
Take a day or two vacation if you are retired take a daytrip shopping, lunch etc.

We had a new roof done 2 years ago, they strpped it down to the plywood, replaced any wood that needed done and rebuilt the roof as needed. It was $$$$ but we used the best roof company in the area, these guys were worth every penny, When they were done there wasn't even a nail to be found on the ground and they had covered everything in our 3 attics. They truly were amazing and did a great job, took them 4 days plus 1 day for the boss' inspection. So many in our area are having metal roofs done, I wonder what is ging to happen when they all need to be replaced.

My roof was 20 years old and USAA paid the maximum and immediately.

That is frustrating. The last time I had it done , I took a book and read in a nearby park .
