labeling storage containers

Okay, Gang, what is the best way of labeling on the outside storage containers. I'm talking about the plastic Rubbermaid containers. I don't like the clear see-through containers because they tend to be flimsy. Can I use some type of marker or should I tape a sheet of paper on the outside to label the contents? I want to be able to identify the contents without having to look inside.

I have too much stuff in my house and need to store it in the garage. Not that you've had this problem. Wink
