@Mominohio @Lucky Charm -- Well well - you all certainly do jump to conclusions and assume a lot don't you. You know NOTHING of this woman's situation. Since about 80% of the home owners in this small resort town go back north after the snowbird season , I imagine her YEARLY income is not very much since she loses most of her housekeeping clients when the season ends. The girl who used to cut my hair told me she makes a ton in the winter but barely can keep her business open 2 days a week in the summer here. It is best to not ASSUME things you don't know or make judgements based on those assumptions as you will frequently be incorrect. My housekeeper has a legally licensed business.

We (well maybe I should just speak for myself) didn't have to assume much based on your post in the other thread. She used the system to keep her kids insured in health care. They have aged out of the system, and she now has to step up and do what the rest of us do, figure out how to get herself covered.
You said she makes much more money cleaning houses. She chose to make the most money (at least that she thought she could) by cleaning and taking the entitlement program (which tells me she perhaps wasn't reporting all her income) instead of taking the full time job with benefits long ago, as it would net less cash. Just time to pay the piper.

Then perhaps she should consider the Publix job she was offered as I'm sure it still stays open when you snowbirds leave back for the north. Or does she prefer the summer off? Maybe teaching would be a better option.

@Mominohio You should be really really glad that you are not in a situation where you need to use a program like CHIP. Who are you to judge anyone else. Your posts here are saying a lot about you that is not really very nice.

It isn't about luck, it is about planning, sacrifice, doing without and choosing employment based on more than the paycheck.
Anyone who uses the system when they have other viable options is open game for my or other's comment. I foot the bill for it so I'm entitled to an opinion.
This whole thing about not judging is just bunk. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you don't want people judging your actions/lifestyle/spending/choices, then pay your own way. When you pay your own way, I don't care what you choose to do as long as it isn't illegal or harmful to others. When you make choices that require someone else to foot part or all of the bill, I will judge.
