@bigLou   I've seen towers from city windows and cities from towers, but I've never seen a tower standing starkly alone against a waterfront as that one does.

Staged illusion or reality?

It's real.  It's on the Citadines Tour Eiffel Paris.

This was the view from our balcony the last time we were in Paris.  Once it got dark there were twinkling lights for five minutes every hour on the hour and whenever we were in our room -- we were out there watching!

So interesting.  I was in the Eiffel Tower late one night -  got separated from my group as we waited for space in crowded elevators.  Everybody was trying to go down at the same time because the metro was going to close at midnight.   I walked down- faster than waiting for the elevator!   Just never saw the Tower standing free against the night sky any of the days we were in Paris.

@kristina1   The hotel was Pullman Paris Tour Eiffel.  We always travel with Tauck and the hotels they use are almost always smack in the center of the cities.  I was not happy about this one because it was out a little bit.  Once I saw the view -- I was thrilled!  Honestly -- we have stayed at many hotels we liked more than this one -- but it became totally irrelevant once we stepped out on the balcony!
