converting double mattress to queen

I have an antique rope bed with the frame attached to the head and foot boards.  It is a double size and I would like to convert it to a queen if possible.  I have heard you can but  need some info,....

Never mind.  I should have looked up antique rope bed.  They use ropes for the support and not ropes for the head/footboard.  I've seen iron beds done this way, but not rope beds.  I'd measure the length and width from max to max.  A queen is 5 " longer and 6" wider.  Then center a tape measure on 60 wide to see how much hangover there is, and do the same for the length.  See if you can cope.  No one usually sleeps on those edges, but we do sit on them.  The mattress might get some sag on the edges if sat on much.

You might want to check with someone who restores antiques. I have the same situation with my parent's bedroom set. I was thinking of using it in our master bedroom but only if the bed can be converted to accommodate a queen size mattress. I found out it can be done for a pretty penny. They modify the area where the side rails meet up with the headboard. Of course, there is nothing to do with the extra width so the headboard still looks full size.

I got my parents bedroom set but they had a king headboard and I use a full size.  Rather than run myself ragged trying to find a match for the furniture, I found a metal bed in pewter and it looks very nice with the furniture.
