Re: anyone have a porch swing???

No, but I wish that I did.......my grandmother lived in a small town, a few streets off the town square and it was fun to sit on that swing and read or watch people walk by on their way to town in the mid-60's when I would spend time with her on summer vacation. We would have iced tea or lemonade with cake or cookies every afternoon or after supper.

Re: anyone have a porch swing???

My great grandma had a sleeping porch we used in summer when I was a kid. We used to have a glider in our front courtyard at my old house.

Those are such great pictures. On the last one, that swing, we have a gate owned by neighbors, and I'd love to paint this side of the gate. It's real country looking, but just begs for fresh paint.

Do love the pictures here though.

Re: anyone have a porch swing???

When we added a room onto our house, we also added a large front porch. It is 12 x 16. The builder kept discouraging me to have one this size (don't know why) but I love it. I have a six foot swing that my hubby got me for my birthday one year. Love to sit out there at night. Only drawback is that it faces the west and gets very warm there in late afternoon but it does shade that side of the house and keeps the interior cooler. Especially love sitting out there after dark and listening to the frogs croak and watching the lighting bugs.

Re: anyone have a porch swing???

I love the pic of the "sleeping porch" with the beds and their pretty quilts. It reminds me of when we used to sleep on our second-floor balcony 60 years ago. We didn't use beds, however. We just carried blankets/rugs out and slept on the balcony floor.

It's a sad commentary on our times, but in many places it wouldn't be safe to sleep on a ground-level porch.

Oh, the pictures are lovely and the descriptions of poster's swings as well.

We don't have a porch swing but we do have a yard swing hanging from a big old walnut tree.
