Things that I have mostly been given to me like my furniture. I have not got many things on the walls at all. Since getting divorced I dont have the extra money for alot of decor and so I dont have much clutter, which is a good thing though. We used to have things all over the walls, shelves, and alot of clutter. I was not ever very good at decorating anyway!!

I walked in your shoes. I still do. Starting over can be a good thing. Now you get to make your space your very own. I learned that I can have a nice home with thrift store finds and a little bit of paint can do wonders for a piece that was put out on the street for trash pick-up. I got a lot of simple ideas from google and pinterest. Don't down yourself on decorating ability. Have fun with it.

We are getting rid of a lot of stuff with stories and that do mean something because we are old and have dragged in a lot of stuff! You have to, or at least we do!
We can't keep all this stuff and like someone said, we don't want to put up so much artwork now--even though much of it was from a relative who was a painter. So, it has to go and it's hard to decide what to keep.

I agree ... if I were to give you a tour - you'd see and hear the story of my ancestors, and my life and interests, beginning the moment you walked through my apartment door.

If decor is important to someone, walking through someone's home most likely gives a window to their history and style.

I'm not worried about my decor telling a story. I suppose many of my items do but to me what's important is if it looks good, works well with my other items and how it all makes me feel!

As a retired designer, I always stated to my clients that it is so important to surround yourself with the things you love. Don't purchase items to impress anyone but yourself.
If you are happy with your home......others will be also.

I think my home reflects my personality, style and interests.......
