I just wanted to add one more thing. Have you ever pulled out that plunger "thingy" that you close to keep water in the sink and looked down the sink drain? OMG you wouldn't believe the black slimy crud that accumulates. I've gotten in the habit now of every couple of weeks I pull it out, clean the stem off really good (that gets black crud on it as well) and keep putting a long skinny brush down into the drain and pulling up as much of it as I can. Sometimes it takes a few tries to sit the stem in exactly right when you put it back in, the end has a little opening in it that you have to slide onto a little arm that sticks out a little ways down the drain but so far I've gotten it on just fine.

I use the gel dishwashing detergent, put it in followed by some very hot water at night before I go to bed. In the morning I run hot water to flush it. I do this about once a month and have never had to call a plumber. If it's your bathroom sink it's probably hair and you will need to plung it.

I wouldn't beat yourself up over it. Sometimes these products work and sometimes they don't, so it was worth trying I suppose. And it can be returned and HSN refunds your original shipping, so at least it's not too costly to give it a try.
I recommend Hair Clog Blaster by Whink. It seems to have good reviews. Picked it up in my local hardware store and it worked for me.

Why is your drain slow? If it's hair, soap or toothpaste that is causing the blockage, a drain cleaner will probably work.
If you dropped a cap from the toothpaste, a bobby pin, a coin or some other matter that is not organic, it will need to be snaked out or removed manually.
If you were not sure, you did the right thing by trying the less expensive option.
Don't beat yourself up.

I swear by Zep 10 Minute Hair Clog Remover. It's in a red jug, and you can buy it at Home Depot. Pour the WHOLE jug into the drain, wait several hours, then flush with the hottest possible water. It works.

I was determined to get the sink drain cleared out yesterday. WELL - I tried Professor Amos 2 more times. The drain got so clogged that the water was not even draining. So I got lots and lots of HOT water and started pouring it down the drain. At least I got the water to drain a bit.
Today I am off to try the Zep ( want to try that in the shower drain) - OH NO - watch out I might clog that drain too.
