Yankee Candle wax melter

I bought a wax melter a few days ago at Yankee Candle and didn't realize until I got home that the top section doesn't come off. The melter is electric and I usually put the top piece in the freezer to clean out the wax. Not sure if I should put the whole thing ( cord and all ) into the freezer.
