 I like all of them, but find #3 the most "homiest". The horses don't bother me at all.

VERY interesting!  I appreciate you taking the time to let me know!  I LOVE antiques and have since I was around 14 years old!  My house is primitive antiques and I have a chest from 1830.

  I am of Scandinavian ancestry so  these horses  looked familiar to me. The Dala horse is a special ancient breed in  the Dala  area of Sweeden.

SO very interesting!  What would they do with the horses (what were they used for) at the time they were made please?

Here's a web page that tells more. They started out as toys made in Dalarna  Sweden . They were not painted originally . Then were sold in trade all over Sweden . Earliest references  of toy horses from 15th century . The color red became the most popular, however you find them in other colors which some indicate which District in Sweden. they were made . Etsy has some for sale . Now the horses are  seen like a Good Luck charm . The 1939 World's Fair in NY helped gain them popularity globally. Another article from link below says the color began abt 1800 's .

Dala Horses from the Nusnäs-Mora area first appeared with their familiar bright decoration in the 1800s when the kurbit, or flower patterned saddle, was regularly added to them.
