My current home is older, it will be 50 yrs. old this year, built in 1965! Other than a new roof, new heating and AC, and new water heater, which IMO is general maintenance it was built better than a new home we bought in No. VA back in 1993! They build houses so fast now, that they do things to just pass the codes and inspection and later the homeowner suffers!

Actually I like both, however I prefer most an older home with charm! I love the woodwork and the frames and doors, etc. If I were to build a newer home, it would still be a 2 story but definitely not cookie cutter(that is my biggest pet peeve here in the Midwest), so many of the newer builds in subdivisions are cookie cutter and I can't stand that. I love an older Tudor style home where I could update it where I wanted to and yet leave some of the old charm as well, must have an updated kitchen however!!!!! LOL! However I would only do that if I could afford to update it the way I wanted...When I watch some of the shows on HGTV where they update older homes, they are so pretty and homey and inviting, that's just my preference though!!!!!!
