Hello, Everyone:

(Your names are in order of receipt, with the exception of Loves second post.)

Thank all of you for taking time to respond to my need and providing advice.  I am thrilled!

Since I really don't want to cut down the photo, except to clean up edges, this will be a frame and mat challenge.  To bring forth the beauty of my stepmother, the background and velvet dress are dark, but has face and blonde hair shine forth.  There will be more art involved in this than I thought last night.

Thanks, again, for not only your recommendations, but photos as well. Let's see what I can come up with.

@sfnative - I just took a picture which was quite old to Hobby Lobby.  Since some of the edges were frayed, they suggested that I put it on an acid-free foam core board (not sure of correct name) with museum/conservation glass.  It was an odd size also and is going to cost @$80 to frame.  I cannot wait to see how it turns out.  They have done a lot of framing for me and have a huge selection of frames.  Good luck!!

I have had frames made for unusual items at frame shops and at Michael's Craft store if you have one of those.

Thank you for your feedback.  My husband had a 6 year contract in Tulsa, so am familiar with Hobby Lobby and did have some framing done there.  Since we're in a new city now, after San Diego, I've really appreciated everything that all have shared in answer to my questions.

During the last year, my dh & I created a matted framed photo that we enlarged, along with a superimposed poem (by the recepient) on the photograph, & needed to find the right-sized matte & glass frame for it.  I am always left unsure about what size matte v.s. frame that I need...do I go by the size of the matte, the picture itself, or the frame?  So instead of having to return it & try again, I took the photo with me to Michael's, and tried it with a few pieces they had there, until I found one that was just right.  Actually, the one that we found that we liked the best was in their Clearance bin of wall frames that already had pictures or artwork in them, so we took out what was in there & replaced it with our photo, and saved a ton that way since it already had matting.  If I remember correctly, our second choice was around $50-60, while our clearance bargain was under $10

If you want a true period frame it would have to be over 100 years old. You could try antique actions etc.  If you want the look of a period frame, I found seval last year at Pier One that were beautiful.  One particu;ary was inlayed with perals.  I used for some older potos my sister gave me of my Mother, Mother and Father together, etc.
