Where can I find a "period" standing frame?

This evening we found some wonderful family photos that have been packed away since 1996 and remained in storage through 4 moves.

I have one absolutely lovely photo of my dear step-mother the year she became Miss Glendale, CA.  She chose not to go onto th state championship, because she was enterng art school.

However, what I have is a mid-30s photo of her in a dark velvet dress, which has an exagerated Peter Pan collar with sequins on it.   It was done in a studio and my guess is it's at the most chest up.  It mesures less than 8x10, but much larger than 5x7.

My delima is that I want to place this in a period frame that can sit on a shelf or table.  Any one have any suggestions?  I'd really appreciate it.

I'd suggest Hobby Lobby or Marshalls/TJ Maxx/ Home Goods.

Hobby Lobby has a surprising collection of decor items. We don't have one near us, but there is one in Salisbury, MD that I visited some time ago and it was amazing how many decorative items they stocked.

If you don't have a HL, you can try the other suggestion. The home section has a lot of decorative items and frames--could be you'll find something you like.

You might also try frames by Gift Garden. They come in a number of vintage styles and sizes.

When my daughter lived in Maryland, Kirklands was a must when I would visit her for a few days!

Here are a few ideas:

http://www.bitsofvintage.com/

http://www.decorsteals.com/

http://www.antiquefarmhouse.com/

and check around on ebay, people are always trolling estate sales & selling things on ebay.

Enjoy your search for the perfect frame!

I have found that type of frame in antique/collectible stores.  I think I only paid about $12 for them.  I have some pictures of my grandmother in the early 1900s with some of her kids that I wanted to display.

I will check the bay for you, but I have liked a couple of vendors that sell vintage French things. Sometimes the prices are good, but often the shipping is too high for my pocketbook!

My mother used an artsy place she found in their town. She had a small picture (4x6) of my grandmother reburbished, matted and framed. I have really enjoyed it.

I think that due to it being an odd size you will most likely not find anything to fit it so I would go to a frame shop and have one custom made. They are expensive but so worth the money in the end. My DH is good at making frames but sometimes something is valuable enough to deserve a professional job.
