Re: Whatever Happened To Plain Old Bedspreads?

i love a regular plain old bedspread.  for many years i had a cream matelasse spread on my bed till i wore the heck out of it and it had to be repaced.  i felt like a change, so i put an old patchwork quilt (that i adore) on my bed and i just pull it all the way up and place my regular old pillow cases propped up against the headboard.  works fine for me and i love the old fashioned feel of it.

I do not care for shams or throw pillows. Never have. I do have some chenille bedspreads that were Moms. Love those.

I just looked up bedspreads on Amazon.  Although most of what came up were sets there were 3 bedspreads, Each one had a specific bed size in the description but when I clicked on them all bed sizes were available.  Good luck.

I used to see them quite frequently in the Linen Source catalog, then they went out of business.  I do have several matelasse coverlets that I use as bedspreads in the summer but they don't come down to the floor.  They have a woven design and are widely available.  Like this....

Re: Whatever Happened To Plain Old Bedspreads?

THEY tell us all kinds of style things, but we can almost always pick and choose what we want to use.  Sometimes current style wins with me, sometimes I modify the style to suit myself, and sometimes I reject a style totally.

I like the appearance of a bed with lots of pillows, but I resent manipulating all that stuff daily.  My solution:  my seldom-used guest bedroom has all the extras but the one I make daily and wash frequently often looks as if a different woman is in charge.

I live the same way with many things THEY tell me.  THEY don't get to choose if I am paying.

I still have some bedspreads from years ago that  I use occasionally.  I have a white heavy 100% cotton spread made by Bates that my sister gave me for a wedding shower gift. It's classic. You can still buy them at Bates Mill Store on line.

I highly recommend a Bates Bedspread.

Normally, i use a quilt with shams.  When I make my bed, I put the pillows I use to sleep with  on top of the quilt and smooth them out. Then, I place  shams with pillows in them on top of the pillows I sleep with.

No how, no way do I take my pillows in and out of the shams every day.    I use two filler dummy pillows in my shams. I sometimes use the pillows with the shams on them to prop myself in bed....I just leave the shams on for that.  They get washed with the quilt anyway.

Re: Whatever Happened To Plain Old Bedspreads?

I like plain bedspreads and they're like hen's teeth to find. Stores offering size full/queen as one really confuses me. A full and a queen are not the same size. I don't mind shams, I have two large ones on my bed during the day, but I don't like dust ruffles. I want my spread to go to the floor or near it at least. I'm guessing with so many people not making their beds, the quilt or coverlet is more popular since you can just throw it on top and make it look semi all right. With the many different mattress heights and beds that do or don't use box springs, guess it's too difficult to make spreads that would fit most beds. Kind of like making ankle pants, it's easier than making different length pants. I did get a chenille spread for a guest room from Amazon that fit perfectly, just don't want the same in all my bedrooms. Good luck in your search

I got rid of all comforters/shams. I ordered bedspreads from th Bates bedspread millstore. They are beautiful and wear like iron. Cotton and do not shrink and wash wonderfully.

Just Google Bates Millstore.

Re: Whatever Happened To Plain Old Bedspreads?

Was looking for one myself--and thinking about a nice chenille one--but not a fan of shams either ----have so many shams now--what do you do with them?
