Hard to believe it has been 34 years now!

We were much younger, obviously, and I had no idea the work involved in building a home.  My husband, a builder, knew what he was getting into.  We both worked very hard and it took every penny we had at the time.

I'm still in love with it, although, I would do a few things differently now.  Most importantly, we use the house...all of it...it is not a museum and things like the floors show wear.  It's just gotten more beautiful to me.

I feel very lucky to have enjoyed my dream home for so many years.

Am partial to mid century modern, but like ranch style too. Not interested in any stairs tho--need a one story no matter what.

rancher with a full basement.

so nice that there are virtually no steps involved when we are older and a bit less stress on the body. it has allowed my mom to stay in her own home at the age of almost 84!

unfortunately, you dont see them much anymore.

Re: What is your Favorite Style of House?

my style has changed some over the years .   I used to love a Victorian!   Then tudors , which I still kind of like I just don't favor all separate rooms now .

Our first home was a ranch style .   Our 2nd and forever home we built a farmhouse/craftsman combo style . We have the pillars in front with a porch ,  traditional outside style craftsmen all the way !    Inside not though ,  rooms are not separated .   the floor plan is open concept , living area all open ,  very large open kitchen connected to LR and DR and family room on the other side .  Color scheme neutrals.

Re: What is your Favorite Style of House?

Even though I love 2 Story now, I may change my mind in a few years.....I always grew up in a Ranch style home, but once my husband and I were married we were always partial to 2 story homes.....

We are in our 60's now, and are still ok with them, but who knows in 5 years???We may be back to Ranch Style..

@Witchy Woman-your home is gorgeous!!!

I like lots of home designs, but for practicality I prefer one story brick ranches with a basement and garage which is what we have.

Hoping as we age we can still get down the stairs for laundry and storage. If not, we will downsize to something without stairs. We are in our 60s now and have no mobility issues at this time, but I've seen family & friends really struggle with stairs as they've aged.

My favorite dream home would be a one story house on the beach with a large covered porch facing the water.
