You know what? THAT is the name I was thinking of. I thought that was a sofa table. No wonder I couldn't find it. I'm sure I've heard people call a sofa table an etagiere. I didn't even know how to spell it.

This is embarrassing. I sell new furniture for a living. I swear I've heard people call a sofa table an etagiere. My store is small and I don't sell sofa tables or etagieres! LOL

My store is just basics such as mattresses, sofas and recliners. We are in a small town, so we stick to the basics.

You are right, but that was the word I was trying to think of. I think I've heard customers call sofa tables that. so I thought they were correct.

Brii, you're correct. Etagere is a shelving uint with open shelves. It can be tall or short. If it's short, it can be called an etagere table. Here's an example. So, it seems that some sofa tables could be called etagere tables (if there is open shelving), but not all sofa tables are etagere tables.

Hey, one person's recliner is another's bean bag chair. By definition an etagere is a piece of furniture consisting of a set of open shelves for displaying small objects and sometimes having an enclosed cabinet as a base. So even if you don't sell them, if someone comes in looking for one, you'll know it's not a sofa table. In my opinion, it's never bad to learn new things.

I have one and I call it a sofa table. Mine also has a long shelf at the bottom where I keep books, etc.
