@sisselwrote:Oh faerie you can have so much fun with the elephant, Christmas wrap lights around it, easter put bunny ears on it 4th of july do fun stuff add more attention to it & enjoy. LOL Your husband must have went to great lengths to find it, he must love you so much.
I don't want to insult her dignity with that kind of thing. For too many years elephants have been "decorated" and used as servants for human bidding. I follow the goings on of many elephant sanctuaries around the world, and when I read sad things about them I go and hug Hathini.
Sounds weird, I know.
I completely agree with this, @faeriemoon
It doesn't sound weird at all. None of my animal figurines have hats or clothing of any sort. Maybe a ribbon around the neck, but that's it. My dog has no costumes but a raincoat for practicality. (Which she actually likes.) Animals are not for our subjugation.
(The stuffed elephant in the earlier picture is from a contest my dog won as a Ranger Rick "ambassador." There were lots of winners, as I recall.)
(I started with donations to The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee, and branched out from there.)

I wash my hands first thing when getting home, too.
I try to not even touch my dog until my hands are washed. If you have an aging pet, they can't always fight off all the odd things that might come home with you. Sometimes I just use the backs of my hands a bit to stroke her until my hands are cleaned.
A little OCD can be useful!

@Caaareful Shopperwrote:About 10 years ago, I donated my mixed-matched (but good condition) dinnerware, drinkware, and flatware. I decided to only use the "good stuff." No more keeping all my nicest things for only holidays, or just when guests arrive. I already had special dinnerware and flatware stored away, so once I purchased the variety of syles of glasses, that's all I use, every day.
It's usually just me here, but I am not saving the finer things in life any longer.
This is so smart, and makes life so enjoyable too!
I believe in taking good care of things that are of value or that mean something to me, but I do want to use them, especially if they have sentimental value.
It seems that every generation (in general) wants less and less of the older and finer things (or things just in general) so those of us that enjoy them should indeed use them and take joy in doing so.
I'm trying to do the same thing in my daily life.

I don't walk barefoot either. I have indoor crocs and always have on some type of sock. The only place I will go barefoot is on the beach.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like to go barefoot. My family thinks it's kind of strange.
I so miss being able to go barefoot!
I have knee and foot issues now, and need shoes with good support, even in the house just to get through the day.
I love going barefoot, in the house, in the grass, and as a kid, even on the hot pavement of the road.
I miss feeling the different floors and carpets under my bare feet in the house.

I think most people are like you. I don't know why I don't like to be barefoot (except on the beach, of course), but I do think the soles of my feet are very sensitive. Even as a kid I didn't like it.

Not liking things on your bare feet just reminded me of my little sister when she was between a baby and a toddler. She hated the feel of grass on her bare feet. If my mom wanted to set her down on the lawn, she'd raise her little legs as high as she could while she was slowly lowered down. At the time we thought it was funny. It was only a short period in her life. She did come to enjoy the grass before long. I only have memories since that was way before everything was filmed. It would be all over Youtube these days.
I'm like you in that I don't go barefoot due to needing support for my feet in recent years. My goal, some years ago when I had new flooring installed, was to be able to go barefoot, and I did for a while, but more joint damage happened and so now supportive footwear is most comfortable. Darn all these health issues!

I understand what you're saying. That was my first thought too. Hathini is beautiful, and just perfect as is.
My beloved aunt loved elephants. She had small ones on shelves in many rooms of her home. We talked a lot about the symbolism of a raised trunk, etc. She passed away not long ago, and elephants always make me think of her. She would have loved Hathini. So sweet that your husband gave you such a meaningful gift.

I never meant of offend anyone, I love live animals and would never hurt or abuse them. All our pets are rescue. I have ceramic figures of cats but have live cats in my house. I am looking for a yorkie figurine for my yard cuz that is my Granddog. My daughter gave me a coffee mug with the her dog's picture on it and I always say Oh Coco & I have coffee together when I drink out of it. I just thought it was decorations not knowing how meaningful it is. I am sorry if I offended anyone.

I don't think you should worry about that. If you want to dress up ceramic figures of animals or whatever, there's no harm in it. Some of us just choose not to do that, for various reasons, some having to do with how we view animals but also for other reasons too.
It's a personal preference, and if you want to put bunny ears on a dog figurine or dress up a statue of a bear, that doesn't mean you support animal cruelty. We all know that. It's okay. Enjoy your coffee with Coco tomorrow. I think that's adorable. :-)
