I can't believe I just gave a washer away at the beginning of the year! (I want it back now...lol)
What I didn't like about it was the lid locking and having to hold a button for a few seconds. So when someone saw it inside the garage, they asked about it and I said 'you want it - you can have it'.
It filled up completely, it had an agitator. I never felt like agitators beat up my clothes--ever!
Lesson learned....if one of my washers goes on the *blink*, I will call a repairman. Most times you just think a service call will practically pay for a new washer. Well if they are getting worse, I'll keep the old one thank you.
I'm very conscientious about water usage because I have several water bills to pay. I'm conscientious about electric, too!

Not correct. My new washer is a Hotpoint - made by GE - and alllows me to set the water level. Unfortunately, even the highest setting -super- is still a low amount of water.

Yikes! After reading this thread, I'm so grateful we get our Kenmore W&D set maintenanced every year through Sears since we bought them in 2000.

Come to find out the new washers use very little water because thats all you need! I have never changed my washing habits from my old washer to my new HE washer. I never only wash half a load. I throw everything in, like always, and my wash comes out clean, fresh and smelling great! Perhaps its the brand of washer you bought the reason you are having such problems.
@ID2 Mine come out great too. I don't like for laundry to pile up so I do smaller loads. Always have. I especially like mine because of the pedestals. So much easier on my back!

I have to chime in on this subject. I had a Bosch front loader. This is one reason I did not like it, along with many other. I got rid of it and bought THE SPEED QUEEN!!!. This machine has a nice size stainless tub, nice agitator, just regular simple settings. You can pu t the water level where you want and you can open up the lid and throw things in. The regular wash cycle actually washes the clothes and rinses them. The delicate cycles work very lightly as they should. This is like the old MOM and POP big family type washer. I cannot recommend this brand of machine enough. It is literally the best washer I have ever owned. It has very very small repair issue reviews. Its just a simple washing machine that does exactly what it is supposed to do and it is fast also. The best thing of all........

Bought the Speed Queen washer two months ago. Never heard of it until I read a thread right here. LOVE it...nothing fancy, just gets the job done. Friday my dryer went and guess what, have a Speed Queen coming in the morning.Since these machines are commercial, they have no government regulations on them as far as temperature of water and amount of water used.

I feel the same way. How long did you have the first set?

I have an LG front load and I do like it way more than the Maytag I replaced them with.
I can wash just about anything on the gentle cycle and my clothes look newer longer....I do my whites with bleach and hot water as my last load, leave the door ajar after I am done and I haven't had an odor problem. It is a whole different way of washing clothes and it takes getting used to.

Ladies, How I wish I bought a Speed Queen. I was told I would be disappointed with the new washers. And I have been. Beginning with the locking lid. I can't help but think the only reason the lid locks is so you can't see that the washer is doing an entire load of wash in 6" of water. And then when the load FINALLY ends all the clothes are a tangled wrinkled mess.
My old Maytag did a much better job of cleaning the clothes and the clothes were almost wrinkle free. It seems like washers are going backwards with getting clothes clean and wrinkle free.

I love mine. I do have a high water setting tho, which I use for towels and rinse twice.
