Re: Washing machines and dryers. Matching sets?

For the first time ever we had a matching set when we bought our new house. However, that was 7 years ago and the washer died so I bought a different brand. It looks close but not exactly the same .

I never cared when mine used to be in the basement , but now they are in the hallway outside the guest bathroom , so anyone who goes to the BR sees them. When I had to buy a new washer I tried to pick one that matched as close as I could. In actual fact - I'm probably the only one who notices.

MyDH hung up a cabinet over the laundry set that is as wide as the washer plus a little bit over the dryer then from the side of the cabinet to the wall he put a hanging rod so I can hang up clothes as they come out of the dryer. On the wall behind that rod he made a really cute wooden duck holding an umbrella with a thermometer on it so we can quickly check the temperature and it decorates that blank space.

Re: Washing machines and dryers. Matching sets?

I would buy a set unless the one that worked was relatively new.  My current washer dryer match.  They are about 15 years old.  If one went, I would buy a new set.

Re: Washing machines and dryers. Matching sets?

My washer and dryer match because they are both white.  The dryer is newer than the washer.  I only replace what needs to be replaced. They both happen to be the same brand, but different models from different years.

all of my appliances in my kitchen are fairly new and everything is a different brand.  I do my homework and buy appliance with excellent reviews.  Some brands do not make the best of everything.

Re: Washing machines and dryers. Matching sets?

@Nomorebirthdays We just went through this in February. Our set was 13 years old and the dryer went. Because we figured the washer would be next, we gave it to someone in need and bought both. With the dryer, they didn't even make the parts any longer, so figured the same would hold true with the washer. Don't care about the matching thing, but it just made sense to get both and we bought extended warranties on both.

Re: Washing machines and dryers. Matching sets?

I bought a Maytag Atlantis top loader washer & matching dryer in 2002, the transmission on the washer died in 2010 & it would've cost $500 to fix an 8 year old machine, so I bought a Maytag Bravos top loader & am still using the old dryer.  When either one dies, I'll get a matching set again, because I want to get a gas dryer, since this house is plumbed for a gas dryer & I want to try one out.  My mom had a gas dryer (& fridge & stove) when I was a kid in the 50's, but I've never had one myself.

I only buy the washer or dryer when one breaks. I always buy white --- and even if they're not a match --- it doesn't bother me. Why spend more money than necessary.

Doesn't matter to me if they match.  If they can, then fine, but it is not a priority.

Re: Washing machines and dryers. Matching sets?

That's my plan as well.   My dryer is a very old hand-me-down, but I don't use it much, I hang out everything.   My washer is about 14 years old.    Whichever goes first, the other will be donated and I'll buy both.    I'm going to retire soon and don't want to deal with it then.

My washer and dryer aren't even the same color. They're in the basement. No one sees it.
