Although I don't like Walmart for some reasons (their handling of employees...hiring/raises/management) and the lack of cleanliness of many of their stores. However, I do appreciate Walmart for values/pricing/price matching. When I shop at WM, I go with my shopping list, coupons and a handful of other store circulars.

I do about 50-60% of our grocery shopping there. It depends on week to week because of sales & needs of coarse.

In comparison, Target is just 5% (wish they would have a better set up with their 'cartwheel' program since I don't use a smartphone/apps). I do use their online coupons once in awhile when I can match them to good deals.

I shop at Whole Foods for about 20-25% of our groceries, Hyvee only on rare occassions since I can price match at WM or Target, and a local Ideal Market mainly for meats...

Rich and greedy don't always belong in the same sentence. I see so much more "poor" and greedy these days. All the government programs giving away everything from housing to health care, to food, to education to phones, and tons of other stuff. The underclass that does nothing, generation after generation but live off of the 'rich' and contributes nothing to society. I think the greedy thing goes both ways. I DO mind subsidizing the poor in this nation now, because for the most part, they expect it, and do nothing to earn it. Working poor, who really do work and not live off the system, exempt from above statements.

I HATE malls, because in our area, mall development ruined the economic strength of towns. One of our local Walmarts occupied the site of a store that would otherwise have been empty, and another Walmart built new, so they were no threat to previously established stores. Long story short, I enjoy those 2 Walmarts and shop there.

Great point. All those sale are providing lots of jobs that are not directly Walmart employees, but lets not get bogged down with "useless" details.

Nope, hate Wal-Mart. Their prices are not that great, the stores are too big, empty shelves, no help, etc.

$6.2 BILLION in assistance is paid by the federal govt to WalMart employees every year. Perhaps they should use that billion to help their employees....or ...gasp...pay a living wage.

Walmart also forces vendors to sell at lower prices than given anywhere else or they don't get shelf space.

I don't like Walmart, and have only been there a handful of times, because I find it to be very claustrophobic, and yes, the non-specific "ick" factor. But when you enter, it's impossible to look around and see the department you are looking for, you have to walk around the maze of half empty, picked over shelves before you find where an item is located, but then the item is usually out of stock! We have a Neighborhood Walmart being built very close to us, it will be interesting to see how they compare to Publix.

Would you prefer that their workers are out of a job because people stop shopping there!

I agree! I'm not one of those that demonize the rich.

It's always a chuckle to hear people say that some demonize the rich. That's not the case. What they demonize are the METHODS used by some to get rich. Like many, Walmart pays minimal wages, provides minimal health insurance, relies on the federal government to subsidize employees since they are paid only poverty wages, and still demands corporate welfare from states, cities and the feds.

For every $6,000 you pay in federal income taxes, you pay $53 for welfare and veterans support. For every $6,000 you pay in federal income taxes, you pay $4,000 for perks and welfare for big business.

I witnessed the growth of WalMart from small store fronts to what it is today and it's proof of the American Dream. Businesses are not charities and they are in it to make a profit. I know lots of people who have started at Wal-Mart and gone on to careers, but made it a stepping stone to their own dreams. I like to tell the story that the original 10 truck drivers for Wal-mart had cash stock options and worked for years. They wanted a small change in their arrangements with Wal-Mart and threatened to exercise their stock options--it would have crippled the cash flow of Wal-mart at that time so they quickly got agreeable. If someone doesn't like working at Wal-mart, get enough skills to go elsewhere. Jobs are not social programs or a right. You have to work to make the company profitable to be of value. As for employees having to subsidize their income with welfare giveaways our govenment tax dollars provide, shame on us as taxpayers for allowing such giveaways and not pushing people into higher skill training and entrepreneurship. One of the things about America is you have more opportunities here than any other country in the world--some just choose to mooch off the taxpayer because we allow it. Just my 2 cents.
