No I want my home styled with what I like (well maybe styled is not the right word, eclectic is probably the right word.)

This stylist uses what you already own, she doesn't add new items. It's to get a new look with same belongings using a different placement or arrangement.

It would be nice to have a different furniture placement in our living room but I can't do it.

Thank you for clarifying what a stylist does.

Yes, an interior designer has a much more complex job--gathering samples of flooring, paint samples, furniture, upholstery, lighting, etc. I had to work with a designer at one of  my places of employment when we were moving to a brand new building and it was exhaustive and took a lot of time.

A stylist, on the other hand could come into your home tomorrow, working with what you already have, rearranging furniture, plants, decor, etc. For instance I live in an open concept condo. There are a few units that have the exact same floor plan as mine, but they have arranged their living room furniture where my dining furniture is and their dining furniture where my living room furniture is. It would never have occurred to me to choose their layout. Different strokes...

YES!  It was a great experience and I was very happy with the results.  Did it years ago when I lived in an apartment in another city.  It was someone that I worked with and she did it as a side business.  She did a great job and my DD and I loved it.

Re: WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR HOME STYLED?

I've heard of services like this. It might be interesting to see how they would switch things up with my existing pieces, but I might end up putting everything back. 😉

Sometimes when I look at photos of rooms, I wonder if the stylist forgot that homes shoes be functional as well as nice to look at. Style without function is a deal breaker for me. I would never hire someone to decorate or change things in my home without my permission.

Re: WOULD YOU LIKE YOUR HOME STYLED?

I would pass. I once had a friend brag about her decorating talent, so I told her to come over and make some suggestions. Well, I immediately realized we have totally different perspectives. I like organization and functionality. She angled my furniture. My mom's costume jewely was draped over a vanity mirror, and her pins were attached to a pillow. I totally understood her desire to create vignettes, but I prefer simplicity.
