I have a bedroom that I am converting to a 'computer, study' room...I was thinking about berber for the rug since it's a low pile - but interior decorator that I am not, I don't know what color to go with the berber rug and walls. I know this is a loaded question but if you can help in any way, thanks in advance. I don't know what is fashionable these days.

My experience with berbers is that they are beige with different color undertones. How would you describe the one you've picked?

@sarahpandaI had Berber carpet in my former vacation home, and I loved it. Mine was a beige/tan/brown combo that was not really dark. It was a medium tone I guess. We painted the walls Sherwin Williams "Townhouse Tan" and received many complements on the decor.
I know gray is popular now, but it is not something I can use. I think it belongs in a hospital or a prison, but I do not want that depressing color in my home. Don't let current fads drive your decision. Remember avocado green?

My answer to everything in my home is neutral (I'm partial to tans, creams, and browns) and add an accent color of your choice. That way, it's easy to change your accent color when you want with minimal effort.
Your room(s) should make YOU happy. If so, then I call that fashionable😊.

I don’t find gray depressing at all. I think it is a modern neutral. It’s my color palette. I love it.

@On ItHow about chartreuse. 🤢. My grandparents painted their dining room that color. It was hard to eat in that room. Gross.

Are you planning to do any streaming from the room? Most streamers that I watch go either white (or whitish) or dark grey/black for the wall color behind them. Most go white with a curtain of LED lights behind them. That combo is so common that it's getting a bit funny. YouTubers and Twitch streamers have largely adopted it as the norm. A white wall lets them cast colored lights upon it if desired also.

@sarahpanda, when you mentioned your Berber carpeting, I started thinking about warm off-whites for walls, or other neutrals.
I love color AND neutrals, but without knowing your particular color preferences, I have a few suggestions for neutrals.
Benjamin Moore's warmer whites are ones I have experience with. I love the time-tested classic "Cloud White". It is the softest, easiest-to-live-with white that I have found. It's warm, but not too "yellow". "Simply White" by B. Moore I have also, but it is crisper and a bit brighter.
Here's a room painted in "Cloud White". You can see it's more mellow than the starker white of the window shade and the pillows.
If you crave a neutral in the more "greige" category, my favorite, versatile go-to is "Baby Fawn" by B. Moore. It's a pale, creamy gray/beige, depending on the light. It's similar to other neutrals highly favored by designers, like "Balboa Mist", or "Soft Chamois".
Anyway, just a little food for thought. Good luck!

@PickyPicky3I haven't actually picked out the berber carpet yet - but I was thinking I might find one with a beige base and maybe tiny specks of color in it - and pick up one of those colors for the walls...jury still out..(such a hard job for me )
