Re: Victorian House In Cambridge MA

I love this house, but would not want to own it. Too much upkeep would cost a fortune.

Re: Victorian House In Cambridge MA

My father always used to watch This Old House on PBS and, they once repeated the first season (with Bob Vila all the way back from the '70s) which, had a Victorian house in Dorchester, Mass I remember liking the dormer windows and two-tone wooden siding on(!). I grew-up in a prototypical split level from the '50s my parents had bought before I was born ('83) and, thought 1950s houses were so dumpy compared to what people amazingly knew how to build even a 100 years' *before*. It would be a dream of mine to live in THAT house or get somebody to recreate an exact duplicate of it (in my area of NJ) if I could.

That's true. But the homeowners could well afford that. This house in Cambridge is probably worth 1.5 to 2 million. I would guess much closer to two. Just the property taxes would be a small fortune

It's a magnificent old place. When I was younger I used to relish the notion of having a painted lady. As I've aged, other types of architecture have more appeal for me but I still find them beautiful.

Same here.  In fact, I was so in love with Victorians that when we were on a road trip in Northern California I chose my university based on the houses I saw in the area.

This is "The Pink Lady" in Eureka, California, across the street from the Carson Mansion.

I read an article that said it was on the market back in July for $1.29 million.  Don't know if it's still available, but...

Re: Victorian House In Cambridge MA

Our friend's son just bought a victorian house in town for around $950K.  I think it's on the historical register here.  It's very victorian on the outside with the colors (raspberry pinkish accents), lots of gingerbread decor and scalloped shingles.

It's updated on the inside even though they are going to re-do/update more.

It has several decks and a wrought iron fenced in deck at the tippy-top that you can enjoy the fireworks from Atlantic City to Sea Isle City.  I hope we get invited over to see them!
