I just purchased some vacuum storage bags that had a good rating from HSN.
Before I use them I was wondering....has anyone had anything bad happen to the items they've stored in these bags? Do clothes, bedding, stuffed animals all look the same as they did before you placed them in the storage bags....even after storing for several years? Do items get deep wrinkles that you can't remove, etc?
Just wanted to check there are no nightmare stories before I start using them.

Every few years, I buy some of these bags hoping they've improved them. I've never had anything happen to the contents but I've never had them stay deflated more than a few days. I've had the best success with the dual use bags for travel but they just had to stay deflated one day. My clothes didn't even wrinkle in them.

I bought some of these with the intention of being able to fit lots of clothes in my suitcase for a recent trip (the kind that comes with a portable pump and doesn't need a vacuum). They were so darn heavy! DH and I stayed near the airport the night before our flight. We unpacked all of my stuff, put it on the bed and rethought what I really needed. I ended up leaving a number of things behind, including the bags, and still had plenty of clothes for the trip.....and my suitcase was still heavy!

I store pillows, king size bedspreads and comforters in vac bags. I just took a comforter out that had been sealed and stored in my closet for 3 years. There are no telltale signs on the comforter that it was sealed and stored that long.
My daughter has been storing a ton of seasonal clothing in vac bags for many years. She has never had a problem when she unpacks and switches the clothes for a different season; no fading, no deterioration, etc.
Once we seal our bags, we put a strip of duct tape over the slider and port, to prevent any escape of, or entry of air that would result in inflation of the bag. None of our stored bags have ever inflated.

I spent a small fortune on these bags years ago. . .a complete waste of money.
I do like the duct tape suggestion. However, I am reluctant to invest more money.

I have the HSN vacuum bags that came with zippered storage bags and they always stay sealed and never leak.
i store bed lines and towels in them and they come out fine after a year or two. I would be hesitant to put something that might melt or get ruined in the heat or cold if you are going to store them in an unheated or non air conditioned place. Other than that, everything should be fine to store in them.

I've had the Space Bags and I have to say that while nothing was ruined, everything comes out pretty wrinkled.
One key thing is to be sure the things you put in are FULLY dry. If you wash things before you put them in, make sure there is not any dampness in them at all.

The trick I've learned is to tie ribbon around the compressed bundle both ways which helps take some of the strain off of the seal. The idea of adding tape sounds good, too. Things will be wrinkled and you should never completely compress down or feather items because it breaks the spines and they will never be properly fluffy again.
I store extra pillows and bedding in compression bags and have had no adverse effects.

I bought two of the large storage bags several years ago from QVC that have the space bad inside of a canvas shell. Mine work really well and I store off season bedding in them. I’ve never had a problem.

Like @Kachina624 - I've never had luck with any of them staying deflated and I've tried several different brands thinking they might have gotten better over the years.
