Thanks for confirming that violin connection, @QVCisFun ! I'd almost forgotten that Holmes played. I seem to remember that they incorporated that habit of his in the novels, in my favorite Holmes dramatic production, the series with the quixotic Jeremy Brett...
I do have some old books that have traveled with me, some first landing in my attic, but now down here in the house. Some I collected along the way, some my parents had. My faves are a 3 volume collection, "The Tercentenary History of Canada" published in 1908, that belonged to my parents.
They're worn, lived-in, and burgundy colored, so they look esp. good at Christmas. But I keep them out all the time, as I do my ancient brown and gilt George Eliot volumes and a few others.
Old books are great as "lifts" for things like decorative bowls, or other treasured curiosities. Soulful.
Yes, I like the irony of where your book landed, fun!

I love seeing these treasures and used to go to many antique stores, thrift stores and other places filled with beautiful things! However, now I could open my own thrift store from all that I purchased and my mother's antiques left when she passed. I do appreciate seeing all the vintage items and while I do not buy anymore, I still enjoy browsing once in awhile and admiring.

Your vignettes and vintage books sound so nice, especially the burgundy ones with sentimental value that belonged to your parents.
I have never seen the shows with Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes. So I just watched one of the episodes and much enjoyed it. Thanks.

@Oznell A vintage milk glass hen on nest would be a lovely addition to your milk glass collection. My mother and aunt were collecting white milk glass in the 50s and 60s. A hen on nest and another tiny one are the only pieces of milk glass that I have.
I do have doves on a nest and that is turquoise satin glass by Westmoreland. Doves are special to me since that was the motif for our wedding invitations. I designed our wedding cake with fresh roses and ivy on the top layer and between the bottom and second layer was a gazebo with a Lladro figurine of two doves inside. The cake was frosted with an ivory basketweave design.
If I can get my son to help me to post pictures of some of the things that I mentioned, I'll post them in a new message.

@spiderw , agreed-- thank goodness for browsing! A way to satisfy our love for this stuff, without getting overwhelmed with more objects...
@QVCisFun , hey, glad you checked out the peerless Jeremy Brett as Holmes! His is quite a rich interpretation, leaning into the eccentricity of Holmes, in quite an entertaining way.
@Enufstuff , oh, I just checked out your pictures of these treasures on your other thread and commented. Thanks to you ( and your son if he helped) for putting them up, LOVE!
