@jackthebear

How often do you clean them? And from what I've seen online, just rinse them out (except the HEPA) and let dry for a day or two?

I have a place   outside to dump mine and I dump every time I use it and I only have carpet in the hall and bedrooms.    I also clean out intakes and such as that as well as the roller.

I have a Black & Decker Air Swivel and the entire canister is about 4 pieces, I not only dump but I take it all apart to be sure there is nothing stuck where it doesn't belong as well as tap out the filter. I can actually wash all the parts.  I have cats.

If I needed to dump and didn't want to go outside, I would double bag a plastic grocery bag, dump in it then tie it up and put it in the trash in the garage.    Dumping before the canister is full will add to the life of your vac.

@software

I thought maybe I was over doing it, but I've been dumping each room or each level of the house as I go, most of the time, wiping out the canister with a damp paper towel as well.

I too can dump outside, as we have woods close to the house, but in certain weather, that isn't the best thing. I think I will be dumping in a grocery bag and putting in the garage trash can as well. I just can't imagine dumping this inside the house waste baskets, as the amount of very fine dust I'm getting up is mind blowing.

I knew the old vacuum wasn't doing even a half decent job, but geeze, disgusting and embarrassing!

Re: Update on my vacuum search, and a question for all

I dump my bagless vacuum canister into my kitchen trash can bag.

I also have a bagged vacuum and it's a Kirby.  I prefer bagged vacuum cleaners.  So much cleaner.

Bagless vacuums are just a waning fad, IMO.

Emptying is DH job and it's always outside!  I don't want to vacuum then have all that dust and yuk floating in the air from dumping it inside.

@Sunshine Kate

This is my first bagless. I've always thought a bag  keeps more 'stuff' from reentering the air, but when I see the amount of stuff this is picking up, especially the super fine, powder like 'dust' that is coming up, I'm guessing it is the trade off I'm going to have to make, (dumping the cansiter and having to take it outside) to keep the stuff from being redeposited inside, as well as getting much more stuff up.

I don’t ever want to go back to a vac with a bag

Re: Update on my vacuum search, and a question for all

I have a Miele with a bag but it's unwieldy, although it does a great job.

I mostly use a recent QVC purchase, a bagless Shark upright.

I dump the container directly into the large garbage can that gets rolled to the end of the driveway at the end of the week.  That can is in the garage.

(And no, it doesn't stink or cause any other problems.  If there is anything particularly smelly, whatever it might be first goes in the freezer until it gets put in the garbage.  I hate having a garbage bin outside.)

@Mominohio  Just a note on vacuuming your steps. I have the Black & Decker hand held vacuum that is sold on the Q. It is fantastic on steps as well as in your car.

Re: Update on my vacuum search, and a question for all

I have an old dyson but that is for cleaning the car now but got a shark & love it too both does a good job. When I empty it, I use those plastic bags from the grocery store (I save them) put the tank over the kitchen sink & dump it in the bag tie the handles & stick it in the trash then clean out the sink real good incase dust got in the air. Just be sure when using the grocery bag to make sure no holes in the bag. Trust me it happened. So now I double bag before emptying the tank. I live in a ranch style house so it's easy because I don't have steps.

Re: Update on my vacuum search, and a question for all

I have two levels and have a Dyson on each level. It's a luxery and convenience that I should have done years ago.  I empty the canister on the first level in the kitchen garbage can and on the second level I empty it into the laundry room waste can. The shop vac I empty into the garbage cans in the garage.
