Just yesterday I told my husband that Venice is #1 on my bucket list. Then probably Florence, much of Italy, well much of Europe.
I WILL get to Venice if it kills me as they say!!! Yes I know this isn't the US but it's still #1 in my heart.
Honestly, not sure where in the US I'd LOVE to go to. Though there are a few places I'd move to without a moment's thought.

Liz, how cool that you went down under over the holidays. Does your brother enjoy his life in Australia?
This year we're planning trips to -- Phoenix soon to visit daughter and KC Royals BB training -- Nicaragua is husband's summer mission trip -- Dunedin FL in the fall. I'll work in a quick trip to Dallas to visit dear friends. Also some weekend trips planned in our state.
Fun places being planned for next year.

In the spring - Shenandoah Valley/Grand Smokies. Haven't toured there for years, but I did love my April vacations there.
Also, for anyone like me who has lived pretty much along the East Coast forever, southern Utah/Arizona/New Mexico area is beyond amazing. Don't miss it.

It isn't sunbathing weather all year, so who cares? The temps lately have been in the 70's with the lows in the 40's. If you want same thing everyday go to Hawaii. The temps are hot in the summer that is why we like winter. At least at this years Super Bowl people won't be freezing. On 1/25/2015 I am still oxox said:On 1/24/2015 Desertdi said:Don't come to Phoenix in the winter if you are looking for WARM weather.
How cold does it get, my husband lived in Sun Valley and we are considering retirement there
Sun Valley is up on I-40 near Holbrook in northern AZ......it is really cold up there. If you mean "Valley of the Sun"......a nickname for Phoenix.......we actually DO have a winter season. This year we had a hard freeze the week between Christmas and New Years. I have had the central heat on since November. January averages 45 to 65.......which is not sunbathing or swimming weather unless you are very hearty! Golfers love it, though! May thru September......days well over 100, and last summer season was the hottest on record.

I've been to Venice and Florence and would pick Florence over Venice any day. The countryside around Florence is beautiful and it is just an amazing city loaded with history and a 1000 things to do and see. However, you can't go wrong with Venice or any place in Italy. I lived in Europe for six months and was fortunate enough to have the time to travel all over. I've spent quite a bit of time traveling all over Italy and would go back with just a minute's notice.
I've been to 48 of the states. North and South Dakota are still on my bucket list. There are so many beautiful places in this country that you can't go wrong no matter what you choose.

Two places I would love to see are: Mount Rushmore and fall in New England.

I have been to 29 states plus Washington D.C., and 6 European countries. They all have much to offer. You don't say where you live and what interests you. If you are at all interested in historical things, go to Washington D.C., so much to see and do there you will need at least a week to see a good variety of what is there.

BTW, if I ever have the chance to travel overseas again, Australia would be at the top of my list. How cool that you got to go there.
