OMG, the trolls have hit the Home page!!!

I didn't mean people were poisoning candy and putting razor blades in apples in my neighborhood, if you are of any significant age here, I know you have heard these stories!

Why do people keep twisting posters words around to suit their needs!!!{#emotions_dlg.angry}

I hope that this doesn't put me in the troll category. I am in the defender of Halloween though! But she really is right. There are not a lot of any kind of tampering cases. Most are urban legends. Occasionally there are some actual cases but not nearly as widespread as people think. I hate using Wikipedia as a source but it is a good place to start and get directed to other sites.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poisoned_candy_scare

But all that said, if you don't like Halloween, it certain is your right. I may try to convince that it isn't that nasty of a holiday, but I will be the first to defend your right not to celebrate it!!!!

Where I live the people and their dogs dress up. Last year some of the neighbors came trick or treating with their pets, but I had no dog treat bags. This year I'm going to have a water bowl out for the dogs and have doggie treat bags. What should I put in them? I need to do about 20 and need to keep the cost at .50 or less per bag. Suggestions, please.

We have the same thing. I just get a box of the smallest milk bones and stick a couple in a Halloween baggie. Watch for coupons in the papers or on line to get them even cheaper. I think most people are just really touched that you do this. I wouldn't think you would even need to spend the 50 cents on them. Have fun. Some of those doggie costumes are adorable. My dogs would eat them....

To All - Thanks for contributing your experiences. I never had a baby come by, toddlers were the youngest. The Baby Food jar is a wonderful idea. Like so many things today, only you know your households and how and what you want to expose to your children. Some themes are not for all. I am not against the occasion, I just don't feel it's the entirety of the spirit of the Fall Season nor its beauty.

I am okay with the asking for a recipe or suggestion for dog treats as that is also a first for me too. I am sure that the treats can also be a stocking stuffer for the canines. I put out bird seed for the birds all year, does that count?

The media warns people here to check the kind of candy they purchase or receive. Some people buy the candy made south of the border which has dangerous dyes and lead of all things. Children just know its sweet.

We decorate traditionally for the fall. I love when I can get pots of mums for the patio and around the mailbox. My husband loves to hand out treats for Halloween! We have a dog, so years ago we began receiving the trick or treaters in the garage to avoid the door bell being rung- my husband will sit out by the work bench and pass out the treats. Each year we set up the 6 foot long buffet table and decorate it with flameless candles, pumpkins, gourds, leaves, ect. We give out cans of pop for the older kids (root beer, orange, and grape- we have some sugar free options too), and we get packages of animal crackers for the little kids. The costumes have changed, though- mine were not store bought. I had a long red and white gingham dress with white ruffles at the top. It was 1976, and I dressed up as Betsy Ross, complete with a ruffled "bonnett" that my mom made out of an old white pillow case that she rouched and tied a string thru.

I love all things fall. I'll be getting the outside ready with my fall decor the day after Labor Day. I found leaf garland at Michaels and ran a line of gold lights through it. That goes on the rail of my front porch. We also put the garland and lights around the front door.

2 weeks before Halloween, I remove the above and put out Halloween decor. On Nov 1, I, again hang the harvest items outside.

My neighbors and I like to decorate for the holidays. We always have little contests to see who will be first and what new item was added.

When I knew that there would be babies Trick or Treating, I always bought jars of Gerber fruit for the little ones since I knew they couldn't eat candy. Never left them out even if they didn't have a clue.

Now with my kids all grown, I don't have the luxury of knowing if babies will be coming.

I don't mind babies coming with other kids, after all, what are you supposed to do? Leave them at home? No way. What I really don't understand is when all the parent has is a baby, not a toddler but a baby that can't possibly eat anything. What is up with that. So I now get jars of baby food. Anything I don't use I send to the food pantry. Makes me feel better that the baby will actually get the treat.

I don't get it either but I don't mind. Most of the time they're with other mothers with older children and just out to enjoy the afternoon with their fellow moms which is fine with me. I mostly give out candy but I also buy small size boxes of raisins for children who can't eat candy and although I don't specifically buy bones for dogs who are tagging along, I do raid curly's stash if I see one.

I do understand the ones who are out with others. hey, it is a great time out. The ones I am talking about are actually just mom and baby. No one else. I don't get that. Sorry, but I don't. Who is really getting the candy when that is the case? Are they really trying to give candy to the baby? Gosh, I hope not! I would rather see high school kids (and I don't have a problem with that) but it is the mom and baby alone that I don't understand. But as I said, they get baby food now so I am feeling better.

And Love Roses - Oh yes - always check the candy. That is a must. I hope I didn't imply that one should not. It is just all these scary stories aren't as common as people think.

I forgot to mention some items like Popcorn Balls and Candy Apples. I remember receiving them when out trick or treating as a child. Those things are no longer given out as folks can't trust others not to put something harmful in them. I think if they are made for people you know, it's alright but not strangers. I miss a well made Popcorn Ball.

I love popcorn balls too. They are addictive!!!! Here is the easiest recipe and you can make them with just a few ingredients and easy to adjust if you just want a few.

1 stick butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 (10 oz.) pkg. marshmallows
1 large bowl of popped corn

Melt all the ingredients in a pan. stir constantly. Add to the bowl of popcorn. Be sure to remove the "old maids". Form into ball and wrap in plastic wrap if you can hold off eating them immediately.

Thanks MeMyselfandI - My husband won't let them be formed before he gets to the bowl. He just delights in the stuff. He's the same way with caramel corn too.
