We are celebrating our 53rd anniversary on Tues. and when we had our 50th, I told my husband that after 50 yrs. we were not handing out any more candy. We are in our 70s and our kids left home long ago. It is hard for us to always keep answering the door.

ChristmasNut - Yes, others have posted who are Halloween observers but they don't imply an insult like you and another. Confusing? I think you just like to turn things around. I don't do the Halloween number at all anymore because it is my right to NOT do it. As to how I write my post, it's my business. Start one of your own - sounds like you need some excitement in your life first.

Yes ma'am, you sure told me. I apologize.

Apology noted.

I can't agree that the tampering of the candy doesn't happen - at least in my neck of the woods.

Sarpy - I more than understand your situation. Happy 53rd anniversary too! Over on the Among Friends Forum - GloriaJean is celebrating her 50th at the end of the month.

I also have a female black cat I rescued years ago. I watch out for her but more so during the Halloween weeks as there are some that enjoy harming an animal around that time - especially a black cat.

Another wonderful thing to me about Autumn is the food. I love to make hearty soups and bake my own bread in the fall.

I also love the apples. It's the only time of year I make apple crumble. The apples and the cinnamon and the oats and the fragrance that fills my house just makes everything feel so homey and wonderful.

I agree with Loves Roses about Thanksgiving, too. It is sometimes overlooked in the mad shopping rush to Christmas but my family gathers together and it is a very special time of year for us.

I love all things apple. Can you post the apple crumble recipe? That sounds so good! I love Fall as well.

Hi, Colliemom3! I got this recipe from P. Allen Smith, so let me give him the credit, if you like it. Or the blame if you don't! {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} It is so easy. I like the Granny Smith apples the best for cooking this. There's a bit of tart in with the sweet. It smells heavenly while it's baking. I make mine in a glass pie plate because I like the shape better.

Apple Crumble

Ingredients

6-7 cups apples, peeled, cored, sliced

3/4 cup and 1/3 cup sugar

dash lemon juice

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup flour

1/3 cup brown sugar

3/4 tsp. salt

1.2 tsp. cinnamon

nutmeg to taste

allspice to taste

1 stick butter (Optional)

Instructions

Peel, core and slice the apples. Add 3/4 cup sugar and lemon juice and mix with

apples. Place mixture in greased 7" X 11" baking dish.

Now for the crumble. It's simply a mixture of dry ingredients that you sprinkle

over the top. Just combine oats, flour, granulated sugar and brown sugar.

Next add salt, cinnamon and nutmeg and allspice to taste.

Take a stick of butter and chop it up with the dry mixture into bits about the size

of a pea. Now just spread the crumbles over the apples and bake it at 375 degrees

for about 45 minutes.

Thank you Oostende! I can't wait to make it this Fall! Thanks for making the instructions so easy to understand too. I used to eat apples daily but I have a bad tooth and need to get to a dentist. I have been putting it off and just drinking apple juice ha ha.

Oostende - Thanks for the recipe - I enjoy the P. Allen Smith show. He had a wonderful pumpkin stew made with chicken thighs on the show the other day, oh, oh, oh.

Where I live the people and their dogs dress up. Last year some of the neighbors came trick or treating with their pets, but I had no dog treat bags. This year I'm going to have a water bowl out for the dogs and have doggie treat bags. What should I put in them? I need to do about 20 and need to keep the cost at .50 or less per bag. Suggestions, please.

Apples and pumpkins! Oostende, Thank you for posting your recipe.

I usually make my coffee at home but I look forward to pumpkin spice latte and later on eggnog latte.

I live in the Pacific NW on the coast where it can feel like fall even during the summer at times. This morning there was fog and cool temperatures. That burned off to afternoon sunshine. Some of the outer leaves on our Japanese Maple are beginning to turn color. There's a crispness in the air. Just a couple of weeks and the tourists will dwindle. The mosquitoes will leave and my family will take hikes out at the state park. One of our favorite family traditions is foraging for wild mushrooms which is mostly in the fall.

So many things to look forward to.

Berry50 - You reminded me of something that happens yearly over in Claremont in California. There's a parade (around a week or two before Halloween) that is their famous pet parade. The dogs are dressed in costumes and are paraded down the street - some walk, others have a float.

I had a mom or two in costume trick and treat at the door just for themselves. I just didn't understand what that was all about.

Hope someone here can help you out with suggestions for dog treat bags. Maybe you can ask in Kitchen and Food and the Pet Forum as well.

Janny Rae - Your Fall sounds nice to look forward to. My husband and I both enjoy the fog when we get it here.
