I simply use inexpensive plastic bins (minus the cover). It's easy to slide the bin out halfway and get to the items inside. I've been lucky enough to find bins that are pretty much the same dimensions as my cupboards. Works really well for my family.

Thank you for all your replies. I did go to Pinterest and agree. There are tons of ideas there. I do have a turntable that I use for my flavorings, spices, etc. I have also used bins and baskets for the small things like packets, etc.
Colonel Meow, I have never heard of Buzzfeed. Very interesting.
I ended up getting this little gem
and this organizer
. I have put them in the cabinets and they are very useful, especially the one with the pull out basket.
Thank you so much for all your ideas and help.

We have an older home and I have very limited kitchen cabinet space. I bought a collection of inexpensive plastic bins from KMart/dollar store. Note: I found if you keep the size consistent (square/rectangle) you will gain a few more inches of space. I also used my "old" collection of Lock & Lock containers. ( the ones that were pitted or stained that I did not want to use for food but did not want to discard) This worked for me because I could store all my spices/baking misc. items/rices/small amounts of pastas, etc. They also worked for storing smaller lids or gadgets.
I did purchase a slide out drawer for under the sink. This was worth the $$. I now have use of the vertical space to store all of the cleaners, soaps, duster cloths, etc. and don't have to have to twist my back to reach them.
If you have a wide width cabinet, I found a Debbie Meyer storage shelf (HSN) that is adjustable. I purchased two of these for all of my large bakewear and ceramic wear that I store in my buffet. The ease of reaching for the item that you need without having to lift/pull the entire stack of cookie sheets or casserole dishes is worth it for me.
I would also look at the office supply store. Many times that have organizational items that can used for many other purposes. This is a good time to check them out because they are having some decent sales.
Good Luck.

Here's one that really helped me. I'm short, barely 5' tall, so the top shelves are usually out of reach without a step stool. I purchased several of these baskets from our local dollar store. The handles make it possible for me to pull things off the shelves without a stool. I store packages of rice, gravies, jello and pudding and lots of other things that I don't use everyday.
