I have wall to wall carpet in family room and I also have a runner that sits on top of the carpet....trying to keep a walkway a bit cleaner as we come in from the garage to an entry way in to a the family room....

The runner walks, across the carpet, driving me nuts as I keep adjusting the runner.  I bought small sticky pads make for the purpose of keeping the runner straight,  but they don't do a great job.....anyone have suggestions on another product that I might try?  Thanks.

Re: Throw rug keeps walking....

I once read that you could sew rubber canning rings on the underside of the carpet.

They are called throw rugs for a reason, as they will throw you.  Becareful, as you may trip.

Re: Throw rug keeps walking....

There is an inexpensive rug pad you can buy at the big box stores and online.  It's for carpet to carpet use.  It's white and looks like felt but it's slightly sticky.  Cut to fit your rug and your problems with shifting are over.  It does not transfer the stickiness and is repositionable.  I also use one between my mattress and topper to keep the topper in place and have used one on a sofa to keep the cover in place.  Good for lots of things.

Re: Throw rug keeps walking....

@Kachina624  I have orientals (4 runners, 1 7' round, 1 3x5', and 1 9'x13') on top of wall to wall.  The pads that were put there years ago were wonderful, but recently 2 of my runners just kept walking but I could not find the white pads you mentioned anywhere (I tried some, but they didn't work).  So I ordered the newer felt padding for the two runners.  With those, I had to reposition the runners every two days.

Was so annoyed with that that I have decided to get rid of the wall to wall carpeting and put down vinyl flooring; will be done the end of the month.

@CLEM  The last of those pads I ordered within the past year, I got from Overstock.Com while I was ordering something else.  I was at either HD or Lowe's and saw them in there.

Lucky you with the vinyl flooring.

Re: Throw rug keeps walking....

I am also looking for a solution for the same problem.  I have small and large area rugs along with some runners over our existing carpeting.  This time of year is horrible for carpets ~ especially with three large dogs!  I wish I had a nickel for everytime I bent over to adjust them.

Re: Throw rug keeps walking....

When we redid our living room 2 years ago, we went with a solid fabric on the furniture instead of a floral or plaid.

I wanted to bring color and pattern into the room and purchased an area rug to put down over the wall to wall.

No matter what I did, it wouldn't stop creeping - not even the heavy cedar chest coffee table would stop it.

I'm OCD when it comes to anything being crooked and go so tired of having to empty the chest, move it, straighten the rug, gingerly put the chest back and re-fill it once a week that I just took the area rug up and put it away.

Re: Throw rug keeps walking....

I buy the Royal Palace rug pads for both carpet to carpet and hardwood floor to rug. They have worked well for me. I have tried all types in my area but the RP ones ar thicker and seem to grip better. (especially for the rug to rug). I have dogs so they get put to the test. I also like the fact that you can get a specific size or just get a large one and cut to fit your runner/rug. I do both.

@Fressa Do you get them through QVC or do you go on the RP website?

Thanks for the info
