Thread count for non-removeable pillow case?

I'm shopping for new pillows and have to ask...what difference does the thread count make on the pillow case that comes on the pillow (not the cases that come with your sheet sets)?

Since the pillows are covered with removeable cases of my choosing once I use them on my bed, why would I need to be aware of the thread count of the non-removeable case?

I don't get it. Am I missing something?
