I must really need therapy. All clean items (bras, panties, PJs, knit pants, towels, plates, mugs, flatware, tablecloths, and napkins) go on the bottom. Then you take from the top.
Except for items which are also divided by style or color like bras and napkins which usually match tablecloths and pant length.
And yes, my clothes are hung by color and my tees have their own rod by color and sleeve length.
I must amuse easy.

After washing and drying the towels, fold the "set"--bath, hand & washcloth. After folding, put the newly washed towel set on the Top of the stack, Take out from the bottom, so the towels are rotated. Read a long time ago that linens should "rest" between washing & use. And I Do have a busy life, Just finds it brings a little order, Also, others do not go into the linen closet and take whatever they want. I place the set out for the others--they hang up their own towels. It works for us--decades :-) But every family is different. Thanks

This topic brings to mind: My DIL is a big Fiesta collector. Her everyday dishes are mix of all colors from plates, bowls, small dishes, glasses, etc (refuses to use any type of paper plates)
So I help out while staying at their home by emptying and putting away dishes and cleaning up kitchen.
She came home was getting ready to make dinner she goes to get dishes out -- has a meltdown. Immediately, she calls my son to ask him why the freshly washed dishes are on the top?
Omg, I almost died. I had no idea the washed ones go on the bottom so the colors are rotated....needless to say -- not only are they heavy but I'll not empty her dishwasher again!!!
As for my linen closet, I have 2 rows of towels, etc. and I take from first row and I usually don't need to wash but 1x/week as we have more than enough for the 2 of us.
Whatever system works for you I guess is right. I think after 40 years my spouse kinda gets my OCD behavior🙊😀

@Goldengate8361, Actually, I've done this tongue-in-cheek. You see, I had nothing else on my mind. Isn't that nice? I had just read another thread on being organized and this crept in. But it is something to see reactions.

@Mom2Dogs -- I do the exact same thing, clean on the bottom. Otherwise, you would use the same item over and over. FYI - I'm an organizational nut too. I inherited the gene from my Dad.
This is exactly what I do, too. It just seems logical to me.

I have three large towel racks in my master bath and two in my family bath. I also store extra rolled towels in my linen closet. As I launder towels I replace the racks with the rolled towels and folded hand towels and wash cloths. I then roll the clean towels and store them in the linen closet for the next go around. The folded hand towels and wash cloths are stored in a basket in the master bath.
Perhaps you can consider rolling towels rather than folding them and storing them side by side in layers in your linen closet. It works for me and actually uses less space.

I rotate EVERYTHING, putting clean on the bottom and taking from the top. This includes linens, dishes, glasses (front to back in the cupboard), cutlery, underwear, socks, etc. My husband is the same way, as this makes sense to him too. I'm glad we're not the only organizational nuts out there. ![]()

I just focus on washing, drying and putting the towels back in the linen closet.
