I don't really have much clutter. I thinned things out about five years ago. Now everything has a place and is in its place. I would like to thin out my home decor closet. I have too many flameless candles. Some of the white ones discolored over time and the older ones look old. My clothes closet is organized, but I lost weight. I need to spend time trying on things and moving out what's too big. Both will be tackled over the summer.

Well, my husband and I finally said this was actually going to happen this year for sure! Making progress. He has been doing the garage and I started with the house. We have only just begun - and yikes, the trash guys must think we are moving or something! We seriously have enough for two houses! And, it is all in this one - the closets, the garage, and oh darn, the attic -forgot about that - it will just have to be wait till next year - what you can't see, doesn't matter, right? I am amazed at what I still have, and I really have no idea why I kept it... Must of been one of those "maybe, I will use it again one day" moments... That just never seem to happen! And, yikes... Have not even gotten to my closet yet... Really am going to have to psyche myself up for one!!

Everyone cleans out at their own time and at their own pace, but most of us do it at some point(s) in our lives. Glad you are at it and feeling good about it.
I think we all keep too much stuff for a variety of reasons, and it works itself out for each of us when it is supposed to.
It is freeing to open a closet or a drawer or a cabinet and have easy access to everything, and not have to fight to find the thing you want.
Watching an episode of "Hoarders" is always a good motivator for me!

I totally agree that any episode of Hoarders will inspire you to start letting go of things!
My house has never come close to being that bad, but way too much has been saved thru the years; collections have gotten out of hand, and many items have been held onto long after their prime. I let go of things almost daily now, but there are 3 other people who live here who are hanging onto their old stuff, as well as bringing in new stuff continuously.
The key for me was making the initial purge, then staying on top of my game with regular inspections and frequent sorting, so that the process is constant.

This is so true! It is really a daily thing, removing things from the home (if you don't want your fifteen minutes of fame to be staring in an episode of "Hoarders"!!).
Trash, mail, magazines and newspapers and borrowed items have to be moved on quickly, or they tend to multiply. Add to that the socks with the hole in them that show up when doing laundry, the lock and lock container with the broken lid, but you save the base, the chipped bowl that you don't part with for no reason at all (you know you have 15 others), the clothing that is now too big/too small, the toys the kids don't play with or lost half the pieces to, all just must be kept moving.
That goes a long way toward keeping the clutter at bay.

OMG, somebody give a gold star. I completely turfed one bedroom closet that had clothes I haven't worn for awhile. All donated. Then, I cleaned out the office closet. I have been dreading that one for awhile🙄👏👏👏👏👏👏!!!
Seeing this post regularly has been my inspiration. Thank you girls. LM

Am I the only one still cleaning or are you so busy you don't have time to post? Me? I'm back today to boast about a shiny clean china cabinet. I took every dish out, polished and cleaned the whole thing and rearranged. It looks great.
I also wanted to mention the Karcher Window Vac Cleaner. I used it for the first time today on my patio doors and it was fast and easy. No streaks.
Clean windows without all the effort. Check it out. It was recommended by a friend. LM

Parting with my belongings is much like peeling an onion. I have to do it in layers or it becomes overwhelming. What I felt I simply couldn't part with yesterday might not have that same hold on me today.
A friend of mine was recently downsizing and she rented a storage locker for year for the items that she did not want to part with but that just did not fit. After a year she realized she really did not need most of it. Just a suggestion.

I'm still at it too!
Finished the upstairs this week. All rooms and hall have had all the walls washed, curtains washed (windows too) ironed and replaced. Cleaned out under the beds, washed baseboards, cleaned light fixtures and ceiling fans, in general, everything scrubbed from top to bottom. Beds were stripped completely down, mattresses vacuumed, and all linens washed and replaced, including dust ruffle, sheets, mattress pads, and quilts and bedspreads.
I start the main level (living room, kitchen, and dining room) tomorrow. I'm slower about this than I used to be, but hope to have it done by Wed.
That will leave the family room for the end of the week, or early next week.
Have a huge pile of boxes and bags stacking up in the garage. Deciding whether to donate or have a garage sale this spring. Really want to just donate and be done with it, but we'll see.
