best prevention for mold in shower area: a strong ventilation system.
At our former mountain place we put on a first floor
master bedroom and bath. A few years later I felt something wasn't working with the bathroom exhaust near the shower. Turns out a squirrel had entered the exhaust vent and built a nest that disrupted the ventilation. Had a wire shield place over the exit !
You are absolutely right to be thinking about preventing mold from getting a foothold ! Good luck with you project.

We have a vent but don't use it. It's noisy. We just leave the door open when we take a shower so don't need a vent. We will have a new one installed.
As far as we know we don't have any mold in the walls of our house. If we have a leak we deal with it like you should. The only mold we are aware of is that flexible caulk where tub meets tile. The problem is DH won't replace it when it needs it. I told him I'm not paying someone to do something he can do. I could remove it. He would have no choice but to fix it. LOL!!!
I started cutting the carpet from living room floor when I couldn't get him to do anything about installing some hardwood flooring. LOL!!! I got my new floor.
We are replacing the bathroom anyways.
DH thinks since he's retired he should be able to piddle around doing what he wants?
Our whole house water shut off is in closest in spare room. It started leaking but we didn't know until I stepped on wet carpet in bedroom on other side. We had the faucet replaced. DH removed the wet drywall, insulation, dried out inside the area with fans. Applied some product to wood structure that got wet so mold would not grow. We replaced the carpet & pad in all 3 bedrooms so it would be the same.
We replaced the faucet with a full port ball valve with lever handle. DH installed a board instead of putting drywall there. The board has a cutout place for the lever to fit thru so we can shut it off fast if needed. We can unscrew the board anytime to see if there's any leaking or mold growth going on. It's been years since it happened. So far no leaks or mold.

@vermint wrote:@Nightowlz I can't help with the shower you're looking for, but as for grab bars? They actually make some very attractive ones these days. Mine are by Moen--I have one at the shower entrance, one on the side of the shower, and one by the toilet. They are brushed/satin nickel just like all my other fixtures, and are quite decorative!
Mine are Moen also and all my shower accoutrements, sprayers, hand-held in the shower and at the tub. I liked Moen so much that when I re did my kitchen, I used all Moen at the sink area.
