@Desert Lily

I don't have any holiday themed dishes, but I like some of the ones you posted. I think the snowman dishes are cute. I like the cardinal plate that @Kachina624 posted.

We use our better china, glassware, and flatware for the holidays. The plates are white with gold trim around the edges. We use our everyday dishes, glassware, and silverware most of the year.

Re: The Dishes You Use

[ Edited ]

I use Pfalzgraff Wnterberry. I have the dishes as well as many accessory pieces like a gravy boat and candlesticks.

I use the same glassware and silverware all year.

I have never owned any special holiday dishes. DD has a big set of Winterberry that she really likes to use from the day after Thanksgiving until Valentines Day.

@Desert Lily

I use clear glass Arcoroc plates like these for almost everything. The things that change are the colorful placemats or tablecloths underneath.

I wish, however, I had room to store all the tableware some of the more interesting bloggers seem to have, like these from homeiswheretheboatis or betweennapsontheporch.

(Both are .net sites.)

@Desert Lily  This Christmas I treated myself to a few new dishes. Villeroy and boch mareiflewr pattern. I did not get an entire set and it is more of a spring summerlook but i love them.

I use my Christmas dishes for every meal between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  They are not fancy; I think I got them at Wallgreens of all places, many years ago.  They are white with holly around the rims.  I have 16 place settings.  Then I switch to a snowman pattern from now until about March.  They are the same brand, but I got 16 place setting at a thrift shop.  I love having different dishes.

I have a very large set of Longaberger Traditional Holly dinnerware and a ton of baking and serving pieces.  We use them from The day after Thanksgiving until the middle-end of January

My Nikko Christmastime dinnerware did not get used this year.  Health issues put me way behind and I did not want to use for just a week or so and then put away.  My fine China did make its way to dining room table and it was lovely.

@JeanLouiseFinch - I could have written your post- down to when we start and stop using them each year!  Smiley Happy

I inherited really nice sets of China and cutlery from my husband's mother that had been passed down to her. We never used any of it, ever. Even when entertaining for business we didn't use it. I have already passed the sets on to my two sons.

We use white dishes and add the color w/ the linens and flowers, etc. I have different colored charges that I use under the white dishes to add some color.

My husband grew up in a family that was very formal and he was happy to let go of formality for our family tradition. I have one son who really loves to go big, bold and formal and my other son is more like me, much more casual. Nice, but casual.

I do like to set a pretty table. But I appreciate the converstations and food more when I don't have to worry about chipping expensive plates. Can't even blame it totally on having two large, rambuctious boys....their mom likes to talk w/ her hands and may have knocked over a glass or two in her day. Smiley Happy
